Stafford Speedway Announces Over $27,000 Purse for July 4th SK 5k

Stafford Springs, CT — Since the inaugural 1982 season the SK Modified® division at Stafford Motor Speedway has grown to become one of the most competitive weekly racing divisions in the country, the 2014 season will be no different. With a mix of young rookies, national championship contenders, and crafty veterans, the weekly Friday night 40-lap races promise endless excitement and countless storylines. Adding to the excitement of the 2014 season is a new event for 2014, the SK 5k on Friday July 4th.

The SK 5k at Stafford Motor Speedway on Friday, July 4th will be a big payday for Stafford’s own SK Modified® division. With a total purse of over $27,000 the winner of the inaugural SK 5k will take home a cool $5,000. The race winner will not be the only happy driver post race, 2nd place will see a $2,500 payday, while the 10th place finisher will receive $1,000. The entire payout can be seen below.

“All our divisions put on great racing each and every week but we’ve seen in recent years how competitive and exciting SK Modified® racing at Stafford has become,” said Mark Arute, GM and COO of Stafford Speedway. “We enjoy giving our drivers a chance to run for a bigger purse and this will be a great event for Stafford’s headline division.”

Stafford’s 2014 SK Modified® division will be one of the deepest and most competitive weekly racing fields in New England if not in the country. 2013 Stafford Champion Woody Pitkat, National runner-up Keith Rocco, NASCAR Modified Tour Champions Ted Christopher, Doug Coby, Ryan Preece, VMRS Champion Rowan Pennink, SK Light Modified graduates Tony Membrino, Chase Dowling, Ronnie Williams, and Troy Talman and veterans like Dan Avery, Eric Berndt, Tom Bolles, and Todd Owen will do battle weekly at the Stafford CT half mile. Drivers will surely have the July 4th SK 5k marked on the calendar, with hopes to be apart of the big payday.

“I know these guys will be excited to see a special night for the SK Modifieds®,” Arute continued. “We are hoping to not only create a race the drivers will be excited for but also something the fans will really love and take as their own.”

The SK 5k will also have another big announcement in the weeks ahead regarding the race format so please stay tuned to Stafford Motor Speedway’s Facebook and Twitter pages for all updates.
