The Start of the Granite State Pro Stock Series (GSPSS) Right Around the Corner at Thompson’s Icebreaker

Walpole, NH — Excitement is brewing with the Icebreaker at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP) fast approaching.

Pre-entries have already started pouring in for the April 5-6 show at the nation’s oldest paved oval. The defending race winner, George “Mad Dog” Bessette, has committed to attempt to grab the checkers two years in a row. RB Performance racer Dillon Moltz has sent in his entry form, as well as Windham, ME resident Brad Babb. GSPSS veterans Fran “JR” Colson and Barry Gray have filed entries for the first of the ten events in the 2014 season, as well as youngster Derek Griffith and 2013 champion Mike O’Sullivan.

“I’ve been waiting for it all winter!” Griffith states. “We’re still working hard to get the car done on time, but I’m excited for the season to begin. It’s looking like the best season of my career!” To O’Sullivan, TSMP is a track that is circled as soon as it’s on the schedule. “With the season opener that I’ve been accustomed to for many years, the Icebreaker is now the opening point race for the GSPSS,” commented O’Sullivan. “It’s definitely a good feeling starting out your season at your home track.” O’Sullivan and his brother, Tommy, have a special place for TSMP in their heart, being a facility the two have been around for a long time. Mike picked up a pair of second place finishes in both races last year, and Tommy grabbed third in the final event, the World Series. These drivers and many more are anxious to dust off the cars and engage in battle.

The Icebreaker will be the first race of the season for most racing enthusiasts, as the long off-season has fans chomping at the bit for the smell of race fuel and trading paint. GSPSS fan Gail Doolittle is anxious to watch these full-fendered, high-powered automobiles log laps at the 5/8 mile to begin the season. “I’m excited for the Icebreaker every year,” declared Doolittle. “It’s the start of local racing, but I’m even more excited with the addition of GSPSS to the event. It’s been a long winter without racing!”

The GSPSS will hold qualifying races at 3:30PM on Saturday, April 5 to begin the racing at the Icebreaker at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. On Sunday, April 6, opening ceremonies will begin at noon, with racing to follow.
