Waterford Speedbowl Postpones Blastoff Weekend to Weather

Event rescheduled to April 12th-13th; Friday’s open practice still on

Waterford, CT (March 27, 2014) – Waterford Speedbowl management has postponed its Blastoff Weekend scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday due to the impending inclement weather forecast. The new event date will be Saturday, April 12th and Sunday, April 13th. Blastoff Weekend was supposed to open the track’s 64th consecutive season of racing with the Valenti Modified Racing Series, Northeastern Midget Association and the track’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing divisions along with many more. The Speedbowl will still hold an open practice session on Friday, March 28th as originally scheduled, weather permitting.

“We regret having to move Blastoff Weekend” stated track owner and promoter Terry Eames. “We were prepared to open the race season this weekend, however it appears Mother Nature just does not want to cooperate”. Soaking rains are forecast on and off throughout the weekend.

“We still plan to have a really great event for race fans, just a couple weeks later”. The entire Saturday and Sunday Blastoff Weekend schedule card will move to the new dates with no additional changes.

The Speedbowl will welcome racers on Friday to an open practice session with pit gates opening at 10:00am. Practice is scheduled to begin at 12:00pm. “We’re hoping to get some cars on the track tomorrow along with conducting inspections and giving competitors a chance to complete pre-season registration paperwork” offered Eames. “The more laps competitors can log early in the year, the better it is for everyone”.

Pit area admission is $30.00 for Friday’s practice session. Grandstands will be closed.

The Speedbowl season will officially begin next Saturday, April 5th when the track hosts its opening Saturday night NASCAR Whelen All-American Series event. A six division program anchored by the SK Modifieds® gets underway with qualifying at 5:30pm. Main events will follow at approximately 7:00pm.
