DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will continue its 2014 campaign with the South Boston 150 at South Boston (Va.) Speedway on Saturday, April 5. Below is a statistical look at the performance of selected drivers at the track:
South Boston 150 Setup:
• Each of the previous five NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour races at South Boston Speedway have seen a different driver reach Victory Lane. George Brunnhoelzl III and Andy Seuss have an opportunity to become the first multi-time winners at the track this week.
• Brunnhoelzl, the defending South Boston 150 winner, enters this week with seven straight podium finishes.
• Seuss, the inaugural South Boston race victor, has won four of the last six races dating back to the end of the 2013 season.
• There will be two events at South Boston this season for the first time since the NWSMT began racing there in 2009.
At South Boston Speedway:
History
• South Boston Speedway opened in 1957. The facility is owned by the Mattioli family, which also owns and operates Pocono Raceway.
• South Boston features weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action on Saturday nights during the racing season, headlined by the late model division.
• The track held 10 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races between 1960-71, 35 NASCAR Nationwide Series events from 1982-2000, three NASCAR Camping World Truck Series dates from 201-03 and five NASCAR K&N Pro Series East contests from 2007-11.
• South Boston held the 2001 season opener for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, an event won by Jerry Marquis. It marked the only event to-date for the northeastern-based tour at South Boston.
• The first NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race at South Boston was contested on April 4, 2009 and was won by Andy Seuss.
Notebook
• There have been five different winners in each of the five previous NWSMT races at South Boston.
• Three different drivers have earned Coors Light Pole Awards at South Boston since the first race in 2009. George Brunnhoelzl III is the only driver with two.
• Brunnhoelzl, Jason Myers, Andy Seuss, John Smith and Tim Brown are the only drivers to compete in all five previous NWSMT events at South Boston. Of that group, only Brown is not entered for this week’s race.
• Brunnhoelzl is the only driver to win in wire-to-wire fashion at South Boston, on April 13, 2013.
• Seuss was the youngest South Boston race winner at 22 years, 20 days.
• Ted Christopher was the oldest South Boston victor at 52 years, 10 months, 12 days.

JR Bertuccio (No. 2 Gershow Recycling/Hagerman Systems Chevrolet)
• Has a win and 10 top 10s in 28 career NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour starts. The win came last time out at Southern National Motorsports Park on March 16.
• Is the points leader for the first time in his career.

Up To Speed:
• The 2014 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour schedule consists of 15 events at seven different tracks across three states.
• The competition season opened with the non-points UNOH Battle At The Beach on the short track at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 18. Ryan Preece was the polesitter and Doug Coby took the checkered flag. Jason Myers was the highest-finishing NWSMT driver in the event when he crossed the line second.
• Andy Seuss won from the pole in the points season opener on March 9 at Caraway Speedway.
• JR Bertuccio captured his first career victory on March 15 at Southern National Motorsports Park. George Brunnhoelzl III was the event’s pole winner.
• The Prestoria Farms 150 at Caraway was to be contested on March 29, but was postponed due to rain. A make-up date has yet to be announced.
• Following the South Boston 150, the NWSMT will return to action on April 12 at Langley Speedway.
