Branden Dion Set for SK Light Modified Debut at Stafford

Branden Dion of Taunton, MA will make his SK Light Modified debut today at Stafford Motor Speedway in the Triple D Racing #04. This season will see him compete full time at Stafford on Friday night. Dion will also have two races in an SK Modified®: Open Wheel Wednesday at Seekonk and the World Series at Thompson.

Dion finished fifth in the Lite Modified race at Thompson earlier this month. The team is seeking sponsorship for their Stafford efforts.

He will drive a new Douglas A. King Builders Late Model at Seekonk Speedway this season. Dion will be driving Eddie Leclerc’s former Sunoco Modified this year. Leclerc will be driving a Late Model at Seekonk this season.

“We’ve always loved watching Modifieds,” Dion said. “It started when I raced Go Karts at Stafford. Now I have a chance to drive one, I’m not going to let it slip by. I’m still going to race the Late Model my dad and I are building at Seekonk, which is our priority. But if everything goes well maybe I can do both.”

Dion said his goal is “to have fun as a family. My mother and father both love racing and Modifieds just as much as I do. My mom drove an antique modified. My goals are to gain experience and progress in racing.”

His father Scott Dion will serve as the crew chief and spotter. His crew consists of his parents, Smitty and a friend Jonny, “who is always there for us.”

Dion moved from the Legends Cars to the Sport Trucks in 2013. He was the Rookie of the Year and won twice.

“I had a ball,” Dion said. “I learned a lot. The truck guys at Seekonk are a great group of guys that are fun to race with. I have not only learned how to weld, but I now understand the front end geometry and what makes a car turn.”

Dion did not rule out the chance of moving to the SK Modified®s® for next season.

“It was one of the things I’ve always wanted to drive, Dion said. “The Modifieds have always fascinated me. “
