PRACTICE: Santos Stays Quick at Stafford
Topped Friday Session For TSI Harley-Davidson 125
STAFFORD, Conn. – Bobby Santos was the victor when the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour last raced at Stafford Motor Speedway a month ago, and he’s picked up right where he left off as the leader in practice Friday in advance of the TSI Harley-Davidson 125.
Santos, from Franklin, Mass., posted a fast lap of 18.334 seconds (98.125 mph) around the historic half-mile. He was the only driver in the 98 mph range.
Santos has won six of the previous 16 Whelen Modified Tour races entering tonight, including the TSI Harley-Davidson 125 during his 2010 championship season.
Doug Coby was second on the speed chart at 18.385 (97.906) while Tommy Barrett Jr., the pole winner in April’s NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler 200 at Stafford, had a fast lap of 18.392 (97.869).
Woody Pitkat, Donny Lia, Patrick Emerling, Ron Silk, Rowan Pennink, Justin Bonsignore and Ron Yuhas Jr. rounded out the top 10.
Practice was extended past the scheduled hour allotment due to track repairs that were needed following a Turn 3 crash by Richie Pallai Jr. His No. 39 Chevrolet is not repairable for tonight’s event.
Coors Light Pole Award qualifying for the TSI Harley-Davidson 125 is slated for 6:15 p.m., with green flag at approximately 9:15 p.m.
