Zachem Wants to Maintain Momentum

Max Zachem of Preston, CT began the season looking for “a win and a chance at the championship.” Zachem has three top 10s in four starts, the best start of his VMRS career. Zachem is proud of being fourth in points. Zachem wants “another top 10 and (to) compete for the win,” Zachem said. “Looking to keep the title contention alive.” Zachem has four top 10s in his last five starts at Seekonk and was ninth last month.

Zachem finished sixth in points last season and received the Most Popular Driver Award at the banquet. Zachem changed his number from 79 to 20CT; he used the number in Legends Cars for five years. The 2009 Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour champion was “hoping it would bring back my fans from up north and some luck.”

Zachem has a busy month ahead with VMRS events at Seekonk, Stafford and Lee USA. Zachem will enter the SBM 125 at Star Speedway next Saturday and the Tri-Track Open Modified Series finale at Seekonk in August.

Zachem finished sixth in his NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour debut at Thompson last fall. The team has scrapped plans for a second car to run Waterford and Monadnock due to a lack of funding.

Prior to his move to Modifieds, Zachem was a Legends Cars regular at the 3/8 mile shoreline oval. Waterford is “15 minutes from home,” Zachem said. “(I) grew up there. Nothing like being home for racing.”

The supporters of MPZ Motorsports are Dunleavy’s Truck and Trailer Repair, Broad Brook Heating and Cooling, Coca Cola, JRI Shocks, Draco Springs, and CLN. Zachem is seeking additional sponsorship “to go along with my great current ones,” Zachem said.

The Valenti Modified Racing Series will make its second of three appearances at Seekonk Speedway on Saturday night. The Valenti Auto Mall 100 is scheduled for 8:30pm. Late Models (40), Street Stocks (35) and Sport Trucks are also scheduled. The Street Stock feature is the first Phil’s Propane Triple Crown race. Admission is $26.
