Beech Ridge Results

Scarborough, Maine — Perfection, that is what Kyle DeSouza, of Providence, RI, opened up the third night of NASCAR Nite at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway with. DeSouza led all 50-laps of the Pro Series feature event en-route to his first career NASCAR Nite victory.

DeSouza started on the pole and paced the 24-car field to the green flag. After battling for the lead with 17 year-old rookie John Peters, of Westbrook, DeSouza was able to clear Peters coming out of the fourth turn. DeSouza opened up a sizable lead over Peters until a caution on lap 12 bunched the field back together.

On the restart, DeSouza chose the inside line on the leaders lane choice and it proved successful as he was able to clear Peters by the first turn. As DeSouza led the field, veterans Steve Carrier, of Saco and Oakland’s Mike Landry were able to move their way inside the top three.

By the halfway mark, hard charger and rookie Mike Fowler, of Scarborough was able to march his way into the fifth position after starting outside of the top ten.

A late race caution on lap 38, set up for a 12 lap shootout between DeSouza, and Carrier. DeSouza and Carrier were side-by-side for three laps until DeSouza was able to edge Carrier going into the first turn. DeSouza led the remaining nine laps of the feature event to claim his first victory of the 2014 season. For DeSouza, it was a great rebound and momentum shift after struggling the first couple of weeks with mechanical issues.

Current points leader Corey Bubar, of Windham, was able to claim a top-ten finish after starting in 19th position.

Racing resumes next Saturday June 14th, at 7pm with more NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action featuring the Pro Series, Wildcats and a special 125-lap Sport Series feature event.
