Devil’s Bowl Speedway Announces Modified Disqualification
WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway has disqualified driver Jessey Mueller and the No. 19 car from the 101.5 The Fox Spring Green event held on Sunday, June 15. Mueller crossed the finish line in second place behind winner Todd Stone in the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series feature race for the Bond Auto Parts Modified division.
The Mueller car failed to meet requirements for minimum engine height in post-race technical inspection. Mueller’s feature race finish has been disallowed and he has been stripped of all championship points and purse money earned in the race. Mueller must also start in last place in all Modified qualifying and feature races on Friday, June 20.
Leon Gonyo will inherit the runner-up finish in the main event following Mueller’s penalty. Joey Roberts is now the third-place finisher, followed by Ron Proctor and Jason Durgan.
Devil’s Bowl Speedway promoter Mike Bruno said that he does not believe the Mueller team intended to violate the rules, but the integrity of the inspection and penalty process must be upheld.
“This infraction is not a major one and was likely nothing more than an oversight by the Mueller team, but it is a clear violation of our rulebook and we are taking a zero-tolerance stance at Devil’s Bowl,” Bruno said. “Jessey Mueller is a talented young racer, and it is our hope that he and his family team may learn and ultimately benefit from this unfortunate experience.”
Mueller will retain the five bonus points he earned for winning his qualifying heat.
“The No. 19 car passed every test that our inspectors required of it after the heat race, so that particular race was deemed official,” Bruno explained. “This ruling is consistent with the policy at our partner track, Airborne Park Speedway, and that policy is in effect at Devil’s Bowl.”
Devil’s Bowl Speedway returns on Friday, June 20 at 7:00 p.m. with “Hometown Heroes” Night sponsored by Cat Country 105.3 – all military, veterans, police, fire, and rescue personnel will be admitted free with valid identification. Four NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions will be in action, along with street-legal Spectator Races. General admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (age 62+), and free for children age 12 and under.
Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, VT four miles north of Exit 2 on U.S. Route 4. For more information, call (802) 265-3112 or visit www.devilsbowlspeedwayvt.com.
