Toothaker, Mikenna, Morgan, Heath and Dunphy Carry OPS Wednesday Night Checkers

OXFORD, ME — Wednesday night Oxford Acceleration Series held its second event of 2014, and not even a passing shower could slow down the pace on a great night of racing. Winners included Josh Toothaker, Gerry Mikenna, Missy Morgan, Jamie Heath and Will Dunphy.

A solid field of Outlaws once again put on a highly competitive 20 lap race, and when it was all over, Josh Toothaker picked up his first win of the season. Toothaker pulled out the victory with a solid outside pass of Chris Burgess on turn four of the final lap. Burgess held on for second ahead of Bryce Mains, Dale Lawrence, Brady Romano. Heat checkers flew for John White Jr., and Dustin Salley.

Jamie Heath made it two wins in a row in the Runnin’ Rebels as he handily defeated Gerard Cote, Cody White, Josh Straiton and Bill Grover. Heath and Robert Landers won their respective qualifiers.

Gerry Mikenna bounced back from mechanical problems in his heat, started dead last in the 20 lap feature, and passed Mark Grantham for the win with four laps to go. Jeff Schmidt was right on the rear bumper of the leaders as he crossed the stripe. Brian Darling and Kevin Oliver completed the top five. Schmidt and Oliver were victorious in the qualifying rounds.

Missy Morgan wasted no time getting to the front of the Ladies division main event, and then held off a late race challenge from Melissa Ferland and Shelby Lawrence to pick up her second win of the young season. Michele Bisbee and Kaley Boucher scored heat wins.

Will Dunphy won his second consecutive Cruiser win outdistancing James Record and Ronnie O’Brien. Dunphy also won the heat.

The Oxford Acceleration Series returns to action Wednesday night, June 25th at 7pm. All five divisions will be in action along with the kids pit tour.
