Cicconi, Drake, Brannon, & Haynes Win Big at Oxford Plains Speedway
OXFORD, ME — The ISMA Super Modifieds rolled into Oxford Plains Speedway this past Friday night for the Bentley Warren ISMA Classic, and delivered a lightning fast, quality show on Locke Crane Services night. Drivers visiting Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy victory lane included Lou Cicconi, Justin Drake, Dave Brannon and Michael Haynes.
The 75 lap ISMA Super Modified race presented by Locke’ Crane Services, saw Cicconi jump from his pole starting position to a comfortable early lead while the heavy hitters raced through the pack. Mark Sammut dogged Cicconi and finally raced by for the lead and pulled away from the field. Jonathon McKennedy made his presence known as he fought his way into third spot. Heavy traffic had the leaders making bold moves, and Cicconi slipped by Sammut on lap 64 and cruised to the victory. Sammut hung on for second ahead of McKennedy, Rob Summers and Eric Lewis. Cicconi, McKennedy, and Chris Perley carried heat checkers.
The Budweiser Pro Late Models once again had a new face in victory lane as Justin Drake survived numerous cautions to claim the win. Shawn Martin closed to Drakes rear bumper late in the race but ran out of time. TJ Brackett survived several skirmishes to race home third ahead of Scott Moore and Adam Polvinen. Positions six through tenth included Jeremy Davis, Shane Green, Trevor Sanborn, Alan Tardif and Tim Brackett. Heat wins for the thirty-two cars in attendance included Alan Tardif, Chris Coolidge, Shane Green and Kyle Desouza.
The Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy Street Stock checkers flew for Oxford newcomer, Dave Brannon. Brannon held on over the final three laps to secure his first win of the season over Richard Spaulding, Josh Childs, Kyle Hewins and Spencer Morse. Brannon and Matt Williams won their respective qualifying rounds.
Michael Haynes picked up his second victory of 2014 as he easily outdistanced Bryce Mains, Jerry Freve, Troy Jordan and Guy Childs Sr. in the Ripley & Fletcher Ford Outlaw Sportsman twenty lap main event. Haynes also won his qualifying round.
Racing resumes at OPS next Friday night as Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy will be the night’s sponsor featuring all four weekly divisions plus Legend cars and there will be Kiddee Racecar Rides at intermission.
