Business As Usual: Demise Of National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) Super Late Model Program Has No Bearing On Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP Schedule, Point Fund, Purses, Contingency Programs Or Bonuses; Series Kicks In High Gear With Events At I-88 (July 23), Accord (August 5) and Penn Can (August 12); 2015 Series Planning Underway
BOYERTOWN, PA – The announcement today (July 1) that the National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) would cease operations of its national Super Late Model series will have no bearing on the remainder of the Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP organized by Brett Deyo for Northeast big-block/small-block Modifieds.
The NDRL Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP had received marketing support via the NDRL and its founder John Kennedy. With the demise of the NDRL, the series will return to its original moniker – the Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP – for the remaining four events on the six-race schedule.
The NDRL’s demise has no bearing whatsoever on the Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP, its point fund, purses, incentive programs or contingency award packages. The $10,014 championship and the remainder of the advertised point-fund cash will be paid in full at the Alpine Building Supply Short Track SuperNationals 7 presented by Olum’s Oct. 10-11 at I-88 Speedway in Afton, N.Y.
Plans are already underway for a 2015 version of the Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP, as well. Conversations have started with track operators, tire suppliers and more as the ’15 schedule begins to take shape.
“Our agreement with the NDRL was purely an advertising agreement, much like we have with any of our other marketing partners such as Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc., VP Racing Fuel, Olum’s, New York Truck Parts, etc.,” Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP organizer Brett Deyo said. “While it is unfortunate that John has been forced to cease operations of the NDRL, we will continue on with business as usual. We appreciate John’s contributions to our first-year series and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
“I can’t stress enough that all of our purses and incentives will be unaltered, and most importantly the series point fund will be paid in full.”
The Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP opened its season with huge events at Orange County (N.Y.) and Thunder Mountain (N.Y.) speedways in April and May. The events were won by Andy Bachetti and Matt Sheppard, respectively, over 59- and 73-car fields.
Bachetti, of Sheffield, Mass., currently leads the Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP point standings by a scant three-point margin over Danny Johnson of Rochester, N.Y.
A busy stretch of three events in four weeks approaches for the Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP. On Wednesday, July 23 (rain date: July 24), the series heads to I-88 Speedway for the Sowle Trailer Repair ‘Crazy 8s Special’ presented by Olum’s paying a record $8,888 to the winner for 48 laps. The event pays $1,488 for fifth, $888 for 10th and $388 to take the green flag. Additionally, all non-qualified cars will have the opportunity to run the AIM Fitness/Algonkin Motel B-Main paying $888 to win and $100 to start. The B-Main winner will have the option to start from the rear of the feature.
Gary and Donna Palmer’s quarter-mile Accord (N.Y.) Speedway is the host of the Short Track Super Series on Tuesday, Aug. 5 (rain date: Aug. 6) with the New York Truck Parts Inc. ‘Battle of the Bullring 2’ 52-lap event paying $5,200 to win and $520 to start.
Penn Can (Pa.) Speedway is the backdrop for the ‘Hot Summer Night’ special on Tuesday, Aug. 12 (rain date: Aug. 13) with a 60-lap soiree set for the racy and wide three-eighths-mile oval: likely the final midweek event ever under the departing management team of Reed Miller and Al Wilcox. The event pays $5,000 to win and $400 to start and is the penultimate event on the series. The results at Penn Can will set the stage for the year-end, title-deciding Short Track SuperNationals in October.
