Reserved Camping Sales Underway Now For Year-End Alpine Building Supply Short Track SuperNationals 7 Presented By Olum’s Oct. 10-11 at I-88 Speedway; Camping Spots With Water & Electricity Accessibility Available For $25 On First-Come, First-Served Basis

AFTON, NY – The ‘Working Man’s Race’ returns to the original “job site” this October when the Alpine Building Supply Short Track SuperNationals 7 presented by Olum’s moves back to its birthplace at the Afton Fairgrounds Friday-Saturday Oct. 10-11.

After five years of expansion under the leadership of event promoter and founder Brett Deyo, the Short Track SuperNationals outgrew its former home of Five Mile Point Speedway. An off-season move saw the popular event in its entirety moved approximately 25 miles north and east to the more spacious I-88 Speedway located on the Afton Fairgrounds, off Interstate 88 Exit 7 (Afton).

I-88 Speedway, under the leadership of Jamie Page and Ron Ford, offers flat, expansive parking areas, a roomy pit area, a neat-and-tidy facility, camping with hook-ups, electronic transponder scoring and more.

The Short Track SuperNationals was launched in 2006 at I-88, then Afton Speedway, by Deyo and Pat and Janet Jordan, track promoters at the time. The event’s growth had forced the rustic Five Mile Point facility to the point of overflow in recent years, prompting a change of venue requested by drivers, sponsors and fans alike.

“Attendees of the Short Track SuperNationals will be thrilled with the amenities offered by Ron, Jamie and the I-88 Speedway staff this October,” event promoter Deyo said. “There are only positives to this move: a more spacious facility, improved parking and camping, well-maintained grounds and an awesome 3/10ths-mile track to showcase the weekend warriors this race is all about. I-88 is certainly a gem in its region and a fitting home for the SuperNationals.”

This season, the Short Track SuperNationals holds added significance as the final round of the six-race ’14 Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP. The $10,014 champion will be crowned at the SuperNationals and the point fund will be distributed on-site Oct. 11 at the Dietz & Watson After-Party. Nearly $50,000 in series cash and awards will be handed out during the SuperNationals weekend.

The SuperNationals, with racing on both Friday and Saturday nights, will be headlined by the 50-lap weekend finale big-block/small-block Modified event on Saturday. The event will pay $5,000 to win plus bonuses and a new all-time record $600 to take the green flag!

Friday night’s program will also be topped by the Sportsman division (Open vs. Crate) with a number of crate engine bonuses in effect. As in past years, Modifieds will be permitted to practice on Friday night.

This season, thanks to the facility change, reserved camping spots with accessibility to electricity and water hookups are on sale in advance. Reserved camping spots will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis for $25 per spot (the money collected covers water and electricity costs to the Afton Fair Board).

The Algonkin Motel LLC is located at 2626 State Highway 7 in Bainbridge, N.Y., 13733 and is easily accessible from I-88 Speedway. It is locally owned and operated by Jamie and Denise Page.
