Savary Claims VMRS Firecracker 100 at Monadnock Speedway

IMG_4491WINCHESTER, NH — July 5, 2014 — Richard Savary of Canton, Mass. ran to his third VMRS victory of the season on the fast high banks of Monadnock Speedway. Following up with his win at the Lee USA Speedway last week, Savary and team look like they may be on a roll, which is bad news for the other MRS competitors. In a postrace interview Savary said, “We decided on a different strategy than Lee, our decision was just ride, I was very lucky with some restarts, being on the inside. The outside groove was terrible tonight with so many cautions(nine). The only thing I was worried about was fuel, but it worked out for us.”

IMG_4495Chris Pasteryak of Lisbon, Connecticut finished runner-up to Savary after leading 62 circuits, giving up that lead on lap 96. Pasteryak came from the second row and had to battle Todd Owen, of Somers, Connecticut, and then Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, New York for the lead on lap 33. Pasteryak said “My car stayed the same throughout, and I had to push it pretty hard to stay in front of Kirk (Alexander) and probably used it up a little early”.

Justin Bonsignore has been consistent all season in the Art Barry owned number 21, sitting fourth in points. He led early for 13 laps and turned in an outstanding performance following Savary and Pasteryak across the line for a podium finish. Justin said “It was a little too free in, and a little tight in the center, couldn’t get back to the throttle hard, on the last restart I missed a shift and it shuffled us out.”

Defending champion Rowan Pennink of Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania seem to be in the wrong place at the wrong time all race long, but the Gary Casella team got him dialed in for the last 25 laps and Pennink finished a respectable fourth place.

Russ Hersey of Swanzey, New Hampshire made a rare appearance with the MRS turning in fast times all day and coming home with an excellent fifth place finish.
