Anderson Bowen Wins Southern Super Series Thriller at Gresham

Bowen Holds Off Defending Champ Hemric for First SSS Victory

(JEFFERSON, GA) – Anderson Bowen led his first two laps of the 2014 Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco season Saturday night in the Sunoco 125 presented by Schoenfeld Headers. Those happened to be the most important laps – the last two.

Bowen edged out 2013 SSS champion Daniel Hemric when the white flag flew and again at the checkered at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Georgia. Bowen and Hemric had dueled either side-by-side or just a car length apart for most of the final 50 circuits before the 16-year-old Bowen made the winning move for his first career Southern Super Series victory.

“That was a lot of fun,” said Bowen. “It was the hardest and the most fun I have ever had in a car. I got loose under (Hemric) once and had to regroup to get back to him. It was fun to run with someone who can run that hard and clean.”

Hemric said it was one of the best races he’s ever had to lose.

“We did everything right tonight, he was just a bit better than us,” said Hemric. “We led laps, passed cars. We just didn’t have enough to finish it off tonight here at Gresham. I really want to get this team in victory lane here at Gresham. Hopefully we can get them a win at World Crown.”

Rounding out the top five were Donnie Wilson, TJ Reaid and Augie Grill. Point leader Bubba Pollard went out on lap 33 while leading with ignition box problems. He would return to finish 17th. Kyle Grissom, Travis Cope, Casey Roderick, Harrison Burton and Landon Cling rounded out the top 10 of the 23 Super Late Models that took the green flag.

Augie Grill started the night by capturing the $500 Pole Award, which is presented by Hamner Racing Engines, McGunegill Engine Performance, Progressive Racing Engines, Ford Racing and RW Racing Engines. It’s the third time this season that Grill has set fast time and the fourth in his Southern Super Series career.

Daniel Hemric was the Dubz Thermal Products halfway leader and pocketed $100 for leading lap 63.

The Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco will be back in action on July 25th and July 26th as they shift to the Gulf Coast for the third stop at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida and at Mobile International Speedway in Irvington, Alabama.
