AFTON, NY – $37,427!

Yes, that staggering amount of cash money is on the line for big-block/small-block Modified competitors Wednesday, July 23 (rain date: July 24) at I-88 Speedway with the running of the second annual Sowle Trailer Repair ‘Crazy 8s Special’ presented by Olum’s.

For 48 laps of racing at the Afton Fairgrounds track, drivers competing in Round No. 3 of the six-race Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP will earn $8,888 to win (with $20 “gambler’s fee” posted), $1,488 for fifth, $888 for 10thand $388 to take the green flag. The base Modified purse is a staggering $29,794.

And there’s more: drivers unable to qualify through their heat and consolation events will automatically transfer to a B-Main, 18 laps in distance, sponsored by Algonkin Motel and AIM Fitness. The B-Main winner earns $888 (or can relinquish the winner’s share and start from the rear of the main for $388 green money), 10th-place pays $175 with $100 reserved to take the green in the B-Main. All Modified racers signing in for the ‘Crazy 8s’ event will leave with at least $100! The B-Main payout totals out at $5,138.

Every lap of the 48-lap feature has been sold – many twice or three times – for a minimum of $20. Some $1,459 in lap money will be distributed to drivers running in the top-eight positions during the main event.

Top passing-points earners in each of the 10-lap qualifiers will receive $88 cash thanks to the One Small Step Walk for Layne Michael Parks on Saturday, Aug. 2 in Sauquoit, N.Y., and Parks Companies. The driver advancing the most positions from their scheduled starting position to the finish in the feature takes home $288 courtesy of Dave Zubikowski and Zubi’s Racing for the Hard Charger Award.

A long list of Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP product awards, certificates and other incentives will be handed out to racers.

The Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP “Recycle Your Entry Fee” program will be in effect. All drivers that were unable to qualify at the most recent series event (N.Y.’s Thunder Mountain Speedway on May 20) will receive a complimentary car entry at I-88. Paid, full-season Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP members receive a cash refund of their Thunder Mountain entry fee.

Fans will enjoy their ‘Crazy 8s Special’ experience, as well. From 5-5:45 p.m. on the horse track, the second annual “Fan Fest” will take place including giveaways, music from DJ All-Day Entertainment, race cars on display, driver meet and greets and more.

Later in the night, a HUGE fan giveaway will take place. The winner of the Modified 48-lap main event will select the winner of a $2,399.98 giveaway from sponsor Olum’s and Whirlpool that includes a Whirlpool washer and dryer and storage pedestals. All fans purchasing general admission tickets will be entered into the drawing automatically.

The first $1,250 cash prize drawing will take place for the Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP point fund booster program. Tickets will remain on sale for $50 each through the time of the drawing. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Brett Deyo: bdmotorsportsmedia@gmail.com. There is PayPal payment capability.

The Dig Safely New York GRIT Series Crate 602 Sportsman complete the program in a 30-lap, $1,000-to-win event. Lap money and contingency awards are plentiful for the GRIT Series racers, as well.

Gates will open at 4 p.m. for the ‘Crazy 8s Special’ with the Fan Fest at 5 p.m. The drivers’ meeting is slated for 6 p.m., with hot laps at 6:20 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $20 for Adults (ages 15 and over), $10 for Students (ages 9-14) and Kids eight and under are FREE. Pit entry is $35. I-88 Speedway members receive a $5 discount in the pit area.

The Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP road to the $10,014 championship heads to I-88 following hugely successful events at N.Y.’s Orange County Fair Speedway (April 6) and Thunder Mountain (May 20) won by Andy Bachetti and Matt Sheppard, respectively.

Sheffield, Mass., driver Bachetti leads the Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP point standings with a scant three-point advantage over Danny Johnson (168-165). All of the top-15 drivers in the current point standings are expected to be on hand at I-88.

Last July in the inaugural ‘Crazy 8s Special’ event, track regular Mike Mahaney of King Ferry, N.Y., held off the advances of superstar Matt Sheppard to earn $8,249 including lap and bonus money. The event drew a capacity crowd to I-88.
