NAPA Auto Parts SK 5k Voting Results are in at Stafford Motor Speedway
Stafford Springs, CT — The fans have spoken and the race format for the NAPA SK 5k, $5,000 to win SK Modified® race this Friday has been set. Fans have had the opportunity to vote on the race format on the Stafford Motor Speedway web page, www.staffordspeedway.com, since late March. Over 5,000 votes were cast for a variety of options for the NAPA SK 5k including; race distance, qualifying procedure, tire change procedure, and how the starting grid will be determined.
The results are in:
Qualifying Procedure: Heats
Tire Change: No Tire Change Allowed
Lineup: Invert the top 12
Race Distance: Top 3 distances; 76, 80, 100 laps
The race distance for the NAPA SK 5k will be determined when the SK Modifieds® are gridded on the track before the features are set to begin. At that time one of the three distances (76, 80, and 100 laps) will be drawn out of a hat to determine the official race distance. The number of chips for each distance will be allocated based on the votes each distance received. The final vote totals for each of the laps are; 76 laps: 774 votes, 80 laps: 844 votes, and 100 laps: 2715 votes. These numbers translate to 8 chips for 76 laps, 8 chips for 80 laps, and 27 chips for 100 laps.
Fan’s have made it clear they want an extra distance race but it is still to be determined how far the drivers of the SK Modified® division will need to go to take home the $5,000 payday. The last three weeks in the SK Modified® division have been very competitive and impressive, double the distance and we have a race that you will not want to miss.
Friday’s race marks the biggest SK Modified® race in history with a posted purse of over $27,000. The winner will take home a cool $5,000 and every driver who starts the race is guaranteed $450. The second place finisher will collect $2,500, the third place finisher will collect $1,800, and 4ththrough 10th will all receive at least $1,000 for their efforts.
Adding to the official race purse will be a payout for each of the qualifying heat races; SK Modified® drivers will race for a bonus of $250 per heat winner, $150 for each heat race 2nd place finisher, and $100 to each heat race 3rd place finisher. With over 30 cars expected to be in the Stafford paddock area for only 26 starting spots, the race to qualify could be just as exciting as the main feature.
“I think the heats are going to be pretty interesting,” said 8-time Stafford SK Modified® champion Ted Christopher. “We’ve never done that before so it should be fun. Of course people are going to try stuff in the heats. There’s money on the line and we’re all racers, why wouldn’t we try something?”
The drivers are ready, the fans have spoken, and this is a race you will not want to miss. Be there tomorrow, Friday, July 25th to witness the biggest race in SK Modified® history. #NAPASK5k
