Ryan Preece, David Arute, Austin Bessette, David Comeau, & Brandon Michael Win CBYD 811 Challenge Bonus at Stafford Speedway

Stafford Springs, CT — The unique Call Before You Dig 811 Challenge was established to promote CBYD’s 811 call number to help people know what’s below before starting an excavation project.  The program awards five drivers from Stafford Motor Speedway with an $811 bonus for a total payout of $4,055.  The success of the program that was developed in 2013 allowed it to continue for the 2014 season.  The Challenge concluded with the feature events run during the August 8th Call Before You Dig 811 race program.  Over the 2 years of the program CBYD has contributed an impressive $8,110 to 10 different drivers in the CBYD 811 Challenge.

The CBYD 811 Challenge was open to drivers in each of Stafford’s five NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions, and it began with the season opening NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler event.   The CBYD 811 Challenge awards drivers with 100 points for a feature victory and then each subsequent position is decreased in 5-point increments.  The five drivers whose point totals came the closest to 811 points without going over were Ryan Preece from the SK Modified® division, David Arute and Austin Bessette from the Limited Late Model division, and David Comeau and Brandon Michael from the DARE Stock division.

“Obviously it’s a nice bonus and especially with racing costs it helps us out a lot,” said Preece.  “Call Before You Dig has been very generous with everything they do at Stafford Speedway with the contingency program in the SK Modified® division and with this 811 Challenge program and it’s great to be a part of it.  $811 is like a second place finish and it helps us out a lot.”

“The $811 is a lot of money for us in the Limited Late Model division,” said Arute.  “That money is about 2 and a half wins for us so it’s a big help for the rest of the season. We can put that money to good use to make some improvements on the car and be a little quicker and hopefully we can get another win.  I don’t know if people realize just how big of a help $811 is to a race team, but it definitely is and I would like to thank Derek Brown from Call Before You Dig for the continued support of auto racing at Stafford Speedway.”

Call Before You Dig is a non-profit organization funded by public utility companies with facilities located in Connecticut. Call Before You Dig is a free service that provides homeowners and professional excavators an easy way to learn what underground utilities lie within their proposed work area. 8-1-1 was created to help people know what’s below and from unintentionally hitting underground utility lines while working on excavation projects. 8-1-1 is a free call to make, and calling Call Before You Dig before using mechanized excavating equipment is the law in Connecticut. After 2 full working days of your call, a representative from each member utility company that may be affected by an excavation project will come to the site and mark the utility location of their underground facilities with color coded paint or flags, or call if there are no conflicts. Call Before You Dig can be found online atwww.cbyd.com for more detailed information and guidance.
