Blais to Make Late Model Debut

Austin Blais will make his Late Model debut at Seekonk Speedway on Saturday night. Blais will be driving the No. 0 for Tom Moreshead. Moreshead agreed to Blais driving one or two races in September at the beginning of the year.

“I’m lucky enough to be driving the car, so I’m gonna try my best to stay out of trouble, go for a top 10, maybe even a top 5 if I’m capable of it,” Blais said. “The car itself is proven, so now it’s up to me to be able to get to the front.”

The Somerset, MA driver is third in Sims Street Stock points with four victories.

“Up to now, the season has exceeded my expectations,” Blais said. “Initially, the goal of the season was to get a win, and maybe finish top five in points. Then, we got the win, and steadily got faster each week, rattling off consistent good finishes week after week.

“… We could still get second in points, but right now, our season has been complete since we got our first win. …. It’s been a dream season, one that doesn’t come by very often, if ever. Just gotta appreciate every week because you don’t know when you might have another fast car, or this kind of luck again.”

Former Late Model champion Ryan Vanasse won the Phil’s Propane Triple Crown with a fourth place finish Saturday night, his worst finish in five starts. He finished second on June 7 to go with three wins.
