Forecast Moves VMRS Airborne Race to Sunday
Canaan, NH — A weekend weather forecast calling for showers and thunderstorms throughout the Northeast and in the Plattsburgh, NY, area Saturday afternoon and evening, forced Airborne Park Speedway operators to move Saturday’s race program, to a Sunday (Sept 7) afternoon card and a 1:00 pm start time.
Series President Jack Bateman announced Friday; pit area gates would open at 8:00 AM, with three hourly 15-minute practice sessions beginning at 10:00 AM.
The first qualifying heat race will go off at 1:00 PM, with the VMRS 100-lap feature scheduled first, with respect to drivers making return trips throughout New England, Long Island, NY, and Pennsylvania.
The point’s battle continues to be close with the 14th race of the season featuring reigning champion Rowan Pennink, of Huntingdon Valley, PA, only seven points in front of Holtsville, NY, hot-shoe Justin Bonsignore.
Chris Pasteryak, of Jewett City, CT sits third in the standings and like Bonsignore, still seeks his first win of the season. Pasteryak is only 35-points out of first place.
Three-time 2014 winner Richard Savary, of Canton, MA, is an expected entry in Sunday’s race. Savary is currently fourth in points with Max Zachem, of Preston, CT currently fifth. Zachem is enjoying his best VMRS season to date.
Mike Willis Jr, Dan Meservey Jr, Donnie Lashua., Jeff Malave, Carl Medeiros, and Matt Mead have indicated they plan to compete.
The only time the series visited the Plattsburgh track was May 29, 2010 when fans witnessed a wild finish and violent crash as Pennink and Les Hinckley came together when they passed the checkered flag. Hinckley, who today runs a limited schedule, was the race winner. Pennink on Sunday will be chasing the checkered flag that eluded him that night four years ago.
