Seuss Looks To Sweep In Front Of Hall Of Famer

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Although he fell just short in trying a record at North Carolina’s Caraway Speedway last weekend, Andy Seuss has a lot to race for this Saturday in the South Boston 150 at Virginia’s South Boston Speedway.

Seuss won the spring race at the track and enters this weekend with a 23-point advantage in the standings. While Seuss is still searching for his first NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship, he has a chance to pick up a win in front of a future NASCAR Hall of Fame member.

Rex White, the 1960 champion of what is now known as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and recently elected into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, will serve as Grand Marshal and be on hand to meet with fans.

White scored 28 victories in NASCAR’s premiere series during his career and made three starts at South Boston, highlighted by a win at the track in 1962.

Seuss led all but one lap in the spring race at South Boston and will try to score his third career win at the historic track.

George Brunnhoelzl III is the only other previous winner currently entered for the race and he finished second in the spring race after having to start at the rear of the field for adjustments made to his car after qualifying. Brunnhoelzl took home the checkered flag there on April 13, 2013.

While 23 points is not a huge deficit, Brunnhoelzl will need to rebound from two disappointing finishes in a row to close in on Seuss as he continues his quest for a fifth tour championship.

Pole Winners: There have been four different pole winners in the previous six events. George Brunnhoelzl III is the only driver with two, and qualifying was rained out in 2011. L.W. Miller holds the NWSMT track qualifying record at 14.466 seconds and 99.544 mph, set on April 14, 2012.

South Boston Race Notes
Can Myers Make It Three In A Row: Burt Myers will attempt to become just the fourth driver in the 10-year history of the tour to win three races in a row this Saturday in the South Boston 150. If Myers can take the checkered flag back to Walnut Cove, N.C. he would join Brian Loftin, Andy Seuss and George Brunnhoelzl in that elite club.
