Bosworth and Berry Share Speedway 95 Spotlight
Jayson Bosworth of Cornville and Alex Berry of Harrington both went into their respective series finales leading the series points battles, and both came out with a win in the night’s feature race and the series title for their respective divisions. Bosworth entered the night tied for first place in the Street Landscaping Series for the Coca-Cola Sport-Fours with his brother Brad Bosworth, also of Cornville, but a blown engine in the qualifier put Brad out of contention for the night and put Jayson in position to take the series title. In the 35 lap feature, Jayson led the first 12 laps, but gave the lead up to Skowhegan’s Zach Audet, who boxed him in behind a lapped car and took the lead on lap 13. Audet then led until lap 34 when Bosworth executed a perfect bump and run in turn four, which slid Audet up the track, allowing Bosworth to duck under on the inside groove and take the lead for the final lap. Audet finished second with Old Town’s Dylan Street taking the third spot. Fourth went to Ed Archer Jr. of Clinton with Lewis Batchelder of Dixmont taking fifth.
In the 35 lap Pine Tree Waste series event for the Pepsi Beverage Company Strictly Streets, Alex Berry took the lead from Burnham’s Chris King on a lap 15 restart and led the field to the checkers. King chased Berry until lap 27 when he abruptly headed to the pits with mechanical problems. Jordan Pearson of Glenburn, who led the first 6 laps of the race finished in second followed by Cornville’s Matt Kimball in third. Bradley Norris of Ellsworth took the fourth spot with Bimbo Look of Jonesport finishing fifth in his first race in several years.
Brenton Parritt of Steuben added to his win total for the season in the Dysart’s Late Models when he took the lead from Deane Smart of Bradley on lap 32 of the 40 lap feature. Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington inherited the second spot in a lap 36 melee that sent Wayne Parritt and Wayne Parritt Jr., both of Steuben, and Orrington’s John Kalel II spinning off the track in turn three. All three were able to continue, but lost their positions and had to restart at the rear of the field. Smart finished the race in third, followed by Carmel’s Chris Ryan in fourth and Wayne Parritt Jr. recovering to finish fifth.
Adding to the racing action for the night were the Modified Enduro and Stock Enduro divisions from the Wednesday night program, which has ended for the season. In the Modified class, Dustin Lancaster of Milo picked up his second win of the season in the caution free 20 lap feature. Andrew Crosby of Hermon finished second, with Sam Betts of Brewer, Rhonda Cain of Hermon and Alex Runci of Belfast finishing in that order. In the Stock class, it was Mark Lane of Newport taking the first place prize, followed by Robert Caruso of Kenduskeag in second. Third went to Joshua Gerry of Burnham, followed by Brian Folsom of St. Albans in fourth and Bradley Dolan of Glenburn in fifth.
The final points races of the season will be run on at Speedway 95 on Saturday, September 27 at 7:00, followed by the season’s Grand Finale week-end on October 4th and 5th, which will feature a 150 lap Late Model race on Saturday and the 4th Annual Ikey Dorr Memorial 100 lap event for the Strictly Streets on Sunday.
