Little Aims to Secure Top-5 Championship Points Finish
SHERRILLS FORD, North Carolina (September 24, 2014) – The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East returns to Dover International Speedway on Friday for its season finale, the Drive Sober 150, with plenty of championship points positions up for grabs.
Reigning NKNPSE Sunoco Rookie of the Year, Jesse Little, can climb as high as second place in the final standings with a solid effort in this week’s race. After posting a ninth-place finish in his rookie season, the 2014 campaign has been one of the 17-year olds best in his budding career.
“We’ve had a great year with our NASCAR Technical Institute Chevrolet,” Little said. “Our team picked up the win at New Hampshire earlier in the season, scored a pole award in Iowa and strung together several top-10 finishes in recent weeks. If we can keep that momentum up in Friday’s Drive Sober 150 then I believe this team can make a climb in the final points standings.”
Dover is one of the toughest tracks on the series for any driver. With limited practice time it’s preparation in the shop that is one of the biggest keys to success, according to Little.
“You have to unload with everything dialed into the race car because there are only two short practice sessions this weekend. Dover is a track where you need to have a good handling package and I’m confident my crew chief Kris Bowen will have us dialed in right off the truck.”
Even with the K&N Pro Series running its season finale, Little will use patience to manage his race day approach to 150-laps of competition, he added.
“As a driver you’re up on the wheel at Dover and have to be prepared to battle everything the track throws at you and your race team. The concrete surface places a premium on handling and focus from the driver. We ran well there last season (starting fourth, coming home with a fifth place finish) and this year we’ll have a car that we know will be very fast in qualifying trim and the priority during practice will be the handling package for longer runs.”
While the East series is wrapping up its season this weekend, Little still has plenty of racing ahead of him to close out his 2014 schedule.
“We’re planning to run the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West season finale at Phoenix in November. Last season we were able to bring home a runner-up finish and it’s another chance to run with a great group of drivers out there. Because our points season on the East concludes this weekend we’re looking to get another race under our belt. It’s is a great way to close out our year especially after the run we had out there last season.”
