Zachem Back in NWMT Ride for Thompson Sunoco World Series

Max Zachem of Preston, CT will make his third NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour start at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park this weekend. The team decided to make their car legal for the Sunoco World Series  following a “disagreement with (Valenti Modified Racing Series) management,” Zachem said. “Lots of hard work was put in and we are really looking forward to it.”

Zachem has improved this season in the Valenti Modified Racing Series with four top fives and 10 top 10s in 14 starts.

“I improved being 150 percent hands on from the tires, to the setup, to setting my own valve lash in the motor,” Zachem said. “But I also have a race team I trust and they let me be more of the driver at the racetrack. Let’s me be more relaxed and focused. I also got an opportunity to drive Stan Mertz’s #6 SK and seat time is key too.”

Zachem, who picked up the Sunoco Modified ride in late August, will also be racing in Sunday’s feature. He confirmed his return in 2015 as well.

Zachem’s goals are to “win races and be upfront, no matter where or what car I’m in,” Zachem said.

Zachem’s sponsors are Dunleavy’s Truck and Trailer Repair, Broad Brook Heating and Cooling, Lu-Mac’s Package Store, Fail Safe Fire Testing, and New England Race Fuels.

Zachem said that his plans for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour would include a partial schedule at this time.

Team sponsor Doug Dunleavy picked Zachem to finish second in Sunday’s 125 lap race. Zachem finished sixth in his debut at this race one  year ago.

“Anything can happen and I’m really looking forward to this race,” Zachem said.
