PRACTICE: Pitkat Leads at Thompson
Fastest In Rain-Altered Sunoco World Series 150 Session
THOMPSON, Conn. – Woody Pitkat paced the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour field in a practice session twice delayed by rain Saturday at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park in advance of the season finale Sunoco World Series 150 presented by Xtra Mart.
Pitkat, from Stafford, Connecticut, posted a fast lap of 18.705 seconds (120.289 mph) to lead the 36-car field. He earned the Coors Light Pole Award in the first race of the year in April at Thompson, and will go for a second today at 5 p.m.
Ryan Preece finished second on the speed chart at 18.766 (119.898) followed by Donny Lia at 18.855 (119.332). Matt Hirschman, Timmy Solomito, Justin Bonsignore, Ted Christopher, Tommy Barrett Jr. and Patrick Emerling rounded out the top 10. Season points leader Doug Coby was 11th.
The start of practice was delayed by rain, and about 15 minutes after the session got underway, it was delayed by a second round of precipitation.
Coby enters the finale with a 28-point lead on Christopher and needs to finish 24th or better on Sunday to secure his second Whelen Modified Tour title.
