Thompson Adds NASCAR WMT Race
General Manager Josh Vanada announced at the drivers meeting this morning that Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park will host four NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races in 2015. The 150-lap NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season finale will run this afternoon, the the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing. The season opening Icebreaker runs in April.
The 5/8 mile oval in northeastern Connecticut has hosted the most races in series history, including the inaugural race in 1985.
While the series visited up to five times in some seasons, the track has not hosted four events since 2012. The traditional dates are in April, August, September and October.
The nation’s first asphalt race track has been run by the Hoenig family for many years. The facility was renovated earlier this season with the revival of road course racing on a 1.7 mile layout, incorporating the oval.
