Call Before You Dig Returns as Title Sponsor Of August Whelen Modified Tour Event At Stafford Motor Speedway

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Motor Speedway has announced that Call Before You Dig has returned as the title sponsor of the track’s August 7th NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event.  The 2015 Call Before You Dig 150 will mark the second consecutive season that CBYD has served as the title sponsor of the NWMT race at Stafford.

“We were all very pleased with our sponsorship of the race this season,” said Derek Brown, Vice President of Damage Prevention and Education for Call Before You Dig.  “This race works out great for us to be able to not only promote Call Before You Dig, but our 811 nationwide number and our www.cbyd.com website as well.  The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race brings the biggest crowds, so it’s an ideal race for us to sponsor in order to reach the largest audience.  That fact combined with the close proximity of the race date to August 11 is the perfect combination for CBYD.  August 11th is National 811 Day, which we use to remind everyone that it’s the law and you must call 811 before undertaking any type of project that involves digging underground.”

Last year’s Call Before You Dig 150 saw hometown driver Woody Pitkat score his very first career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in a dominating drive that saw him lead 111 of the race’s 150 laps to beat Ronnie Silk to the checkered flag by over 3 seconds.

The Call Before You Dig 150 has been a race where typically the cream rises to the top.  In the 15 CBYD 150’s that have been run at Stafford Speedway since the year 2000, 11 times the race has been won by a driver who was either a former or future NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion.  Mike Stefanik was the 2001 winner, Ted Christopher was the 2002, 2007, and 2011 winner, Todd Szegedy was the 2003, 2004, and 2010 winner, Tony Hirschman was the 2005 winner, Ryan Preece was the 2009 winner, Doug Coby was the 2012 winner, and Bobby Santos, III was the 2013 winner.  The only 4 drivers who have broken the cycle of champions in NAPA Victory Lane for the Call Before You Dig 150 were John Blewett, III in 2000, James Civali in 2006, Jimmy Blewett in 2008, and Pitkat this past season.

Call Before You Dig is a non-profit organization funded by public utility companies with facilities located in Connecticut.  Call Before You Dig is a free service that provides homeowners and professional excavators an easy way to learn just what underground utilities lie within their proposed work area.  811 was created to help people know what’s below and from unintentionally hitting underground utility lines while working on excavation projects.  811 is a free call to make, and calling Call Before You Dig before using mechanized excavating equipment is the law in Connecticut.  After 2 full working days of your call, a representative from each member utility company that may be affected by an excavation project will come to the site and mark the utility location of their underground facilities with color coded paint or flags, or call if there are no conflicts.  Call Before You Dig can be found online at www.cbyd.com for more detailed information and guidance.  Contractors can use the cbyd.com website to get an E-ticket, in which case they wouldn’t have to call.  The E-ticket is available online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
