Schedule & Qualifying Format Set for Battle Of Trenton Indoor Races; Indoor Track Being Built on Sun National Bank Arena Floor; Races Go Dec. 19-20

TRENTON, NJ (Dec. 17) – A tight, action-packed time schedule will govern the running of The Battle Of Trenton II Indoor Races, set for this weekend, Friday and Saturday, December 19 and 20.

The Len Sammons Motorsports Productions produced program racing events currently list 68 TQ Midgets, and 24 Slingshots and Champ Karts each – full fields – for the two days of action.

Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, is the site of this Battle Of Trenton.  The arena floor was in the process of being converted Wednesday from a hockey rink to a tenth of a mile racing oval for the two days of competition.

On Friday, December 19, Three Quarter Midgets race in Twin Twenty lap feature races, joined by the Champ Karts.

On Saturday, December 20, the TQ main event, the 40-lap Battle of Trenton is at center stage with the Lentini Auto Salvage Slingshots as the support class.

Friday’s day of activities start at 8am with TQ trailer parking and unloading followed three hours later by inspection for the TQs starts. Champ Karts are staged beginning at 11am. The Friday drivers meeting is set for 12 noon with TQ practice starting at 1pm and Champ Kart practice beginning at 3pm.

Spectator gates for grandstand admission open at 6:30pm with racing starting one hour later, at 7:30pm.  The Friday program calls for two Champ Kart heats, six TQ Midget heats a Champ Kart B-Man and three features, with the Champ Kart race between the Twin Twenties.

Winners in the first Battle Of Trenton on ‘preliminary Friday’ were Andy Jankowiak and Ryan Preece in the TQ Twin Twenties and Justin Gumley in the Champ Karts.

Saturday’s card starts with a 9am garage opening with inspection set for 11am and the mandatory drivers meeting promptly at noon.

Afternoon time trials for TQs give way to preparing the track for Fanfest, the popular opportunity before the races for fans to meet and greet their favorites.

Spectators with tickets to Fanfest will gain access to the building starting at 5pm on Saturday, with Fanfest starting at that time.Access to the race track will be obtained through the Section 109 stairwell. General admission gates will open at 6pm.

Racing starts at 7pm with six TQ heats, two Slingshot heats, three TQ B-mains, a Slingshot B-main, Oliver Communications TQ match races, the 20-lap Lentini Auto Salvage Slingshot feature and the finale, the 40-lap Battle Of Trenton 40-lap TQ Midget race.

The Indoor auto racing events are produced and promoted by Len Sammons Motorsports Productions, whose success in promoting indoor races in the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. annually, has created intense interest in this phase of the sport.

For the unitiated, TQ Midgets are smaller, lighter powerful versions of Sprint and Midget cars specially prepared for the rigors of indoor racing.

Champ Karts are lightning fast, caged versions of karts that compete regionally and nationwide on both dirt and paved surfaces and on both ovals and road racing circuits. Karts are agile, have no active suspension, and require a precise touch.

Slingshots are closed cockpit cars that are identically built and purchased from one central source, Speedway Entertainment in Lebanon, Pa. Since the cars are theoretically identical, great emphasis is placed on driving skill.

Tickets for the event are available online at www.comcasttix.com and  will be available at the arena box office the day of the event.

Tickets do increase $2 in price on the day of the event.
