Tri-Track Open Modified Series Returns
It’s official. The Tri-Track Open Modified Series presented by The Long Island Modified Maniac and The Racing Guys is back for a second year.
The inaugural year for the Tri-Track Series saw fantastic racing action at Lee USA Speedway, Star Speedway and Seekonk Speedway that only Tour Modifieds can deliver. The expectation is that race fans in New England can expect more of the same this year, but with a different race track thrown into the mix.
The first race will once again be at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, New Hampshire, but this year it will be on May 17th. The second race will be at the high-banked bullring of Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, NH on June 13th, and the final race will once again be on “Open-Wheel Wednesday” at Seekonk Speedway in Seekonk, Massachusetts on July 1st. Each race will see a feature of 100 laps as well as a Last Chance Race.
“We had a lot of fun starting this deal last year, even with the struggles we faced,” said James Schaefer, otherwise known as the Long Island Modified Maniac. “We believe that this year can be even better than the first year and we hope that it will put the series on a path towards continued growth in fan and team involvement in the future.”
The series will once again have a $10,000 point fund awarded to the champion. Last year it was awarded to Jon McKennedy and was raised through the tireless fundraising efforts of Schaefer. This year the point fund money will be raised in two ways: Schaefer’s fundraising, and via a “club pre-entry” idea from Dick Williams of The Racing Guys.
“By joining this club you’re pre-entering the three races,” said Williams. “They’re sending their entry blank and money in and that puts you in the point fund. If you don’t join the club you don’t get in the point fund.”
The pre-entry is $450. It’s a one-time fee that covers all three races. Williams has dubbed the idea as “Racers helping Racers.”
Doug Dunleavy of Dunleavy’s Truck and Trailer Repair will also be stepping up to put money forward. Last year Dunleavy provided the money for the “Longest Tow Award,” but this year Dunleavy will be doing something a little different.
Dunleavy will be putting up $20 for each lap, a total of $2,000 a race. The money will be paid out to each person who leads a lap.
“I’ve always tried to stay involved with the Modifieds and the past couple years I’ve been putting in more and letting these guys have fun,” said Dunleavy. “They’re great races. These three races are awesome.”
