Woody Pitkat Scheduled to Drive #6 Sunoco Modified for Mertz Racing at Thompson Speedway in 2015
NASCAR All American Series Sunoco Modified car owner Stan Mertz officially announced today that Woody Pitkat will take over behind the wheel of his Mertz Racing No. 6 modified at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park for the 2015 season.
Max Zachem was originally slated to drive both the Tri-Track series and the Thompson races in 2015, but after discussions regarding the upcoming season, the two have decided to part ways. Car owner, Stan Mertz said,”We didn’t feel that the timing was right for 2015 and both felt it would be better for both of us to pursue other opportunities.”
“I’m excited to see Woody in the car for this season at Thompson, he drove for Mertz Racing in the Tri-Track series in 2014 and we seemed to have clicked well.”, Mertz said. “I know he will perform to our expectations and show the power that our new Ashaway Performance Engine package truly has.”
After running a built motor package in 2014, Mertz Racing and Ashaway Performance Engines will now be upgrading to the SK spec motor package for the 2015 season.
Mertz Racing also announced that Dennis Perry will be the driver of the #6 SK Modified for the 2015 Tri-Track series events at Lee Speedway, Monadnock Speedway and Seekonk Speedway.
Mertz Racing has competed in all of the 2014 NASCAR All-American series events at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park with both Stan Mertz and Max Zachem driving as well as the Tri-Track Series events with Woody Pitkat as the driver.
At the beginning of the 2014 season, Mertz Racing purchased a new 2014 Northeast Troyer Modified from Northeast Race Cars and is busy preparing that car for the 2015 season. The car is prepared by the team at APE Motorsports and powered by Ashaway Performance Engines.
