Preparations Underway for Lee USA
Lee, NH — Despite Mother Nature dumping some two feet of snow on the Lee USA Speedway to remind us that it’s still winter here in New England, preparations are well underway for the 2015 racing season at “New Hampshire‘s Center of Speed“.
Although football is getting a lot of New Englanders’ attention this weekend, Lee USA will be swinging open the gates just ten weeks after the big game for the traditional Northern New England season opener featuring the annual Governor’s Cup 150 for the American Canadian Tour Late Models on April 12.
Defending race winner Eddie MacDonald is expected to be among the dozens of entries for the event, which typically attracts a field of racers from all six New England states as well as several Canadian provinces. MacDonald beat out former race winner Joey Pole of Hudson and multi-time Lee USA and ACT Tour champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. for top honors in 2014.
In addition to the always-entertaining ACT race, the Northeast Classic Lites and North East Mini Stock Tour will be part of the opening day action as well. The first race of the 2015 campaign highlights just three of the many traveling series that will be in action on the fast 3/8th mile oval throughout the season.
May 17 brings the next special event on the calendar, with the first round of the Tri-Track Modified Series taking center stage, and it only gets better from there. Once the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions open their Friday night season on May 29, virtually every week will feature an added attraction.
June 5th brings the return of the New England Truck Series, while the Senior Tour Auto Racers vintage club and Northeast Classic Lites add to the excitement on June 12. The Valenti Modified Racing Series are the headline attraction on June 19, with the much-awaited return of the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Models on the slate to close out the month on June 26.
Summer action heats up in July with a gigantic fireworks display on the Night Before the Fourth, and the Northeast Classic Lites are back for another appearance on July 10. Open-wheel competition is the name of the game on July 17, when the NEMA Midgets and NEMA Lites come to town to join the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series regulars.
A week later, the highly-popular Granite State Pro Stock Series (GSPSS) bring back memories of years gone by when Pro Stocks were the weekly fare at Lee USA, and July ends on the 31st with the first-ever appearance of the New England Street Stock Tour.
One of the most highly-anticipated races of the season opens up the August calendar on the 7th, when the ground-pounding 800 horsepower machines of the International Supermodified Association (ISMA) roll in for the running of the annual Ollie Silva Memorial Classic. Defending race winner Jon McKennedy, a former Lee USA regular, is expected to be among the favorites in that one.
The Pro-4 Modifieds join the fun on August 14, the Northeast Classic Lites are back in town on August 21, and the Senior Tour Auto Racers have been added to the show on August 28 before Championship Night closes out the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Friday night season on September 4th.
Several “after season” specials have been added to the calendar, but none more special that the annual Oktoberfest extravaganza the weekend of October 9-11, featuring Friday night practice, Saturday qualifying, and Sunday feature event action for virtually every type of race car known to man.
