NASCAR Expands in Sooner State
Flint Creek Speedway Joins Whelen All-American Series
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Flint Creek Speedway promotes “Fast and Furious Friday Nights.” The competition is about to be ratcheted up another notch as the eastern Oklahoma oval has joined the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series for the 2015 season.
“Flint Creek Speedway is a great addition to the NASCAR family,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR’s vice president for regional and touring series. “Oklahoma has a fantastic dirt racing following and we are elated that fans have a new opportunity to watch NASCAR racing on a weekly basis.”
Flint Creek, located just four miles west of the Arkansas border in West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma, is the latest in a flurry of additions to NASCAR’s weekly racing program. The .375-mile red clay oval, which originally opened in 1987, joins Salina Highbanks Speedway in Pryor as the second NASCAR Whelen All-American Series facility in The Sooner State.
Salina has been NASCAR-sanctioned since 2011 and competes on Saturdays.
Established in 1982, the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series is NASCAR’s national championship program for weekly short track auto racing. Competitors at more than 50 paved and dirt tracks throughout North America vie for track, state and province, and overall series championships in Divisions I-V.
“We’re really excited about the opportunity to bring NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing to Flint Creek Speedway,” said track owner Jacob Frese Sr. “This was not just a competitor-driven decision, this was also for our fans. It’s going to be a fantastic level of racing that is only available at select dirt tracks in the country, and we are proud to now be one of them. We want to thank the continued support of our fans, drivers, and sponsors and we look forward to an awesome 2015 and beyond.”
Flint Creek’s first night of NASCAR-sanctioned competition will be Friday, March 27. Modifieds will be designated NASCAR Division I at Flint Creek while the B-Modifieds will be Division II, Grand Nationals Division III, Pure Stocks Division IV, and Dwarf Cars Division V.
Brian Williams is the reigning track titlist out of the Modified division.
Connecticut-based Whelen Engineering is the series’ title sponsor. Whelen Engineering is a leading manufacturer of automotive, aviation, industrial and emergency vehicle lighting. NASCAR tracks and pace cars across North America and Europe are among the many showcases for Whelen products.
