Willis Seeking First VMRS Win – YankeeRacer.com

Willis Seeking First VMRS Win

Mike Willis, Jr. will return for his second season in the Valenti Modified Racing Series. The Grantham, NH driver wants a breakthrough victory with the New England Modified series. The race at Claremont (NH) Speedway is one that Willis has circled. He won two Pepsi Modified championships at the elliptical 1/3 mile oval.

“We hope to get some chances to lead some laps and go for a win and be a consistent top runner week in and week out,” Willis said.

“I think it is good schedule and happy we are going to a few different tracks.”

The series has 15 races scheduled with up to three added at Waterford (CT) Speedbowl, home of the traditional season opener. Some additions include the inaugural race at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Fair Haven, VT and a return to Maine at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, and Oxford Plains Speedway.

Willis captured Rookie of the Year honors last season. Willis was sixth with one top five and nine top tens in 17 starts.

“I think we had a pretty successful year,” Willis said. “We accomplished what we wanted to as a team by winning rookie of the year, and not causing any problems in the tour, and earning some respect from everyone.”

Willis’ team consists of Crew Chief Mike Willis, Sr., Dave Miller, Rick Anderson, Dave Barton, Kevin French, and Kyle Welch. The No. 38 car is supported by Spirit of Alaska Guide Service, Endless Season Taxidermy, Legacy Landscaping, Wild Game Processing and A.B. Gile Insurance.

Willis does not planning on racing in the Tri-Track Open Modified Series events.
