NEMA Adds Chemung, Waterford Races

According to President Russ Stoehr, the NorthEastern Midget Association (NEMA), has added three dates to their schedule

The NEMA Midgets and NEMA Lites will race at Chemung (NY) Speedrome May 22, and September 12 at New London-Waterford (CT) Speedbowl. The NEMA Lites will compete June 6 at New London-Waterford as well.

This will be the inaugural race for Chemung. The track is a 3/8 mile oval, which the Bodine family opened as a 1/4 mile dirt track in 1951. NEMA will also visit New York for its season opener on May 23 at Evans Mills Motorsports Park and Oswego Speedway on July 11 for King of Wings.

New-London Waterford has hosted the NEMA season opener since 2010. The classic Midget venue hosted the second NEMA race in 1953, won by NEAR Hall of Famer Bill Eldridge. The AAA National Midgets visited the 1/3 mile oval during its inaugural season in 1951, with eventual champion Art Cross winning.

Avery Stoehr, Seth Carlson, John Zych Jr., and Ryan Bigelow won the NEMA Midget races last season. NEMA Lite winners were PJ Stergios, Paul Bigelow, Juris Kupris, and Danny Cugini.

NEMA is also working on an “early May date at” New London-Waterford. NEMA already has both divisions slated for the traditional Wings and Wheels program August 8. The Valenti Modified Racing Series will host a 100-lap race on May 2.
