Myers Saves the Best for Last
NEWTON, NC — On a warm sunny day 20 Modifieds rolled in to Hickory Speedway for the first KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series event of the season. They put on a show that the fans will never forget.
Spencer Davis led the way in practice, but northern stars Ryan Preece and Chris Pasteryak took the front row in qualifying.
On the start Pasteryak took lead, but Davis charged by and pulled away. Davis would lead until the first caution when Drew Moffitt spun off turn four on lap 50. During the caution most of the front runners came in for their mandatory pit stop. That would turn the lead over to reigning champion Burt Myers. Myers’ time out front was short lived as Davis charged back to the point.
Moffitt spun off turn four on lap 79 to bring out the caution. The remaining cars pitted. Davis maintained the lead, but Pasteryak charged to the lead on lap 89. Pasteryak led the next few restarts.
Burt Myers pitted to swap left side tires. Pasteryak pulled away from Zach Brewer and Myers on the last restart. Myers did the bump and run to Brewer, he quickly ran down Pasteryak. Myers dove inside entering turn three and never looked back. Pasteryak held on for second with Jason Myers third. Brewer wound up fourth and Gary Putman came home fifth. 2014 Rookie of the Year Bobby Sheffield finished eighth. Drew Moffitt finishes 12th to take home the Mod Lite win in his first KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series start.
