Lasoski Wins on Epic Night of Racing at Knoxville!

Knoxville, IA, June 6, 2015 – Danny Lasoski led every lap to claim his 103rd career 410 feature victory at Knoxville Raceway on Slideways Karting Center Night. He pocketed $3,000 for his win aboard the Big Game Motorsports #2 machine. That was far from the whole story, however, as wild battles ensued behind him in the non-stop 20-lap main event. In the 360 class, Billy Alley passed Justin Henderson with two laps to go, to claim his twelfth career victory in that class. McKenna Haase, who made history earlier this season as the first female sprint car feature winner at Knoxville, repeated that feat in the 305 class.

The 410 feature saw Lasoski dart out from the pole, followed by David Gravel and Brooke Tatnell. By lap three, Ian Madsen had grabbed third in what would become musical chairs involving spots two through seven for the entire race.

By lap four, Terry McCarl had moved from row five to the sixth spot. Ian Madsen reeled in the second place car of Gravel and the two exchanged slide jobs for two laps before Madsen prevailed for the spot on lap eleven. By then, McCarl had shot under Shane Stewart for the fourth position.

Kerry Madsen was soon in the mix as well, passing Gravel for third. Unbelievable racing ensued, as both Madsen’s, Gravel, McCarl, Stewart and Brian Brown sliced and diced their way through traffic and each other. On lap 18, McCarl shot by both Gravel and Ian Madsen into third. He momentarily got by Kerry Madsen for second, but settled for third at the stripe. Gravel was fourth ahead of Ian Madsen. Paul McMahan, Brown, Jason Sides, Davey Heskin and Kraig Kinser rounded out the top ten.

Lasoski set quick time over the 42-car field, while Matt Moro, Dustin Selvage, Kinser and Brown took the heat races. McCarl won the B main after suffering a broken rear-end in the heat race.

“I hope this continues,” said Lasoski in Victory Lane after winning his second feature here of the season. “I have to thank (crew chief) Guy Forbrook. “This guy never quits. We’ve had some trouble with our racecar on a slick track with a full load of fuel. He just keeps working at it. This is the best the car has ever been.”

The 360 main event was no less exciting. Justin Henderson jumped to the early lead from his pole position. Russ Hall and Tasker Phillips trailed him early, but it was evident that Billy Alley, making his first appearance of the year at Knoxville, was on the move. Starting sixth, he was fourth by lap two, and passed Phillips for third on lap four.

Keoni Texeira did a 360 spin, bringing out the caution six laps in. Henderson pulled away as Alley rode the cushion in one and two to propel past Hall for second. A lap later, Phillips, who was running fourth, spun to avoid Nate Van Haaften on the frontstretch. The restart saw Henderson ahead of Alley, Hall, Tony Shilling and Van Haaften. Shilling surged to third when

The final slowdown of the race came nine laps in, when Hall felt Clint Garner’s right rear, disabling his front end. Despite helplessly going across the track, further damage was avoided. Henderson pulled away again on the restart, as Van Haaften took third from Shilling.

The leader appeared to be on his way to a fourth win this season at Knoxville and his second in the 360 class. He lost some momentum in traffic, however, and Alley reeled him in. Alley could put the Ironwood Builders #3 high or low on the race track, and slipped under Henderson coming for the white flag. He would hold him off for a popular victory here at Knoxville. Van Haaften held on for third, ahead of Garner and Shilling. Calvin Landis, Joe Beaver, Jack Dover, hard-charger Matt Moro and Jon Agan rounded out the top ten.

Henderson set quick time over the field and won his heat race. Van Haaften and Dover were the other heat winners, while Moro took the B.

“I actually won this one,” said Alley in Victory Lane. “The last time I won (in 2014) I started on the front and had it kind of given to me. Bob Richardson has been with me since I started. He gave me an awesome racecar that was fun to drive. It’s a lot of fun. This is my home. Justin didn’t really know what the racetrack was doing in the lead. He went to the top when the lapped cars got in his way and it worked to my advantage. I was hungry. My little boy Harrison gave me a hug before I left home and said, ‘Dad, just try to win’.”

McKenna Haase led the entire way in her second win of the year in the 305 class. The event was shortened to ten laps due to time and a number of incidents. Rob Weuve got into the wall on lap two. Trevor Smith, who was fourth at the time, flipped in turn one on lap three. Devin Kline, who was running second broke a dragline on lap four. Josh Jones spun on lap six, and Kevin Hetrick flipped while running third on lap eight. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Stacey Alexander challenged the leader over the final two laps, but Haase would not be denied. Rookie Christian Bowman was third, ahead of Kade Higday and Matthew Stelzer. Ben Woods, Mike Mayberry, Brad Comegys, Jeff Wilke and Tanner Edwards rounded out the top ten. Haase set quick time, while Edwards, Higday and Mitchell Alexander won heat races.

“The last restart wasn’t my best,” said Haase in Victory Lane. “I missed the bottom a little bit. I was tired. It was a very long race. Hopefully, everyone is o.k. It’s really cool to win on Slideways Karting Center Night because I got my number from one of the Slideways karts. It’s just unbelievable and I don’t even know what to think.”

Join us next Saturday night, June 13, for the Mediacom Shootout featuring the World of Outlaws! The 360 sprint cars will also be on the card. For more information on Knoxville Raceway, visit www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com! For more information on the World of Outlaws, visit www.WorldofOutlaws.com!
