Sam Betts Wins 95 Wacky Wednesday Opener

Sam Betts of Bradley bested a field of 30 cars to win the season opener in the Wacky Wednesday RoadRunner division Wednesday night at Speedway 95. Betts took the lead from Patrick Cook of Brooks on the 13th lap of the 20 lap feature that had been stopped 3 times by the red flag in the first 9 laps. Mitchell Hodgins of Brewer outduelled Nathan White of Veazie to take the second spot while White ended up third. Fourth spot went to Anthony Miles of Winterport with Adam Cossette of Eddington finishing fifth. Three qualifying races were run prior to the feature, and they were won by Patrick Cook of Brooks, Nathan White of Veazie and Dustin Durrell of Newburgh.

Marcus Dunn of Newburgh led all 20 laps of the Stars of Tomorrow feature to post his first win of the season. Nicholas Cota of Carmel battled Dunn for the lead over the entire distance, but had to settle for a runner up finish. Third place was taken by Lexie Roach of Hudson, who recovered from a lap 5 spin off turn two to finish in the top three. Scott Hunt of Old Town finished fourth with fifth spot going to Jordan Kimball of Holden.

In the Modified Enduros, Dustin Lancaster of Milo chased Hermon’s Andrew Crosby for the first 13 laps, but ducked under Crosby to take the lead on the 14th lap when Crosby strayed high in turn one and got stuck behind the slower car of Frankfort’s Alex Runci. Lancaster held Crosby at bay for the remaining 6 laps to take the win. Crosby finished a close second, with Hermon’s Rhonda Crain finishing third. Fourth went to Newburgh’s Darren Durrell with Kevin Hathaway of St. Albans VT finishing fifth.

In the RoadRunner stunt race, Zach Audet of Skowhegan took the lead from Mitchell Hodgins with four laps to go and led to the checkers. Bob Seger Jr. of Frankfort finished second with Sam Betts of Bradley in third. The stunt race involved racing around two skidder tired placed strategically on the track, with each driver having to circle around each tire every lap.
