Byron on Pole at NHMS

LOUDON, NH — NASCAR K&N Pro Series East points leader William Byron of Charlotte, NC claimed his second 21 Means 21 Pole Award by Coors Brewing in qualifying this morning. The rookie and NASCAR Next driver qualified at 29.703/128.229, besting teammate Scott Heckert at 29.764. Dawsonville, GA driver Spencer Davis qualified third in his series debut alongside defending winner Jesse Little and Austin Hill.

“It’s kind of a dream come true to come to another big track and get a pole. It’s our second pole this year,” Byron said. “We had one at Iowa and now New Hampshire. So I hadn’t seen this place before yesterday and it’s definitely different, really fast, but just proud of my guys.”

Byron won two of his last four races in the No. 9 Liberty University Chevrolet for HScott Motorsports with Justin Marks. He was fastest in the first practice and has been battling a cold this weekend. He knows clean air by starting on the front row is helpful.

“It definitely helps and we’ve got some tough competition around us. But we’re going to handle it when the race comes, get some rest before the race. I’m feeling a little bit under the weather the last couple of days, but just trying to relax and we’ve got awhile till the race starts.”

Scott Heckert of Ridgefield, CT has three top fives in his last five races.

“We definitely know that and he’s got a lot of speed and he’s really fast racecar driver and he’s got experience also. So it’s going to be a tough race, but I’m looking forward to it.”

Westboro, MA driver Kaz Grala was sixth followed by Ronnie Bassett, Jr., Kyle Benjamin, and rookies Grant Quinlan and Dalton Sargeant.

The United Site Services 70 is scheduled for a 6 PM start today.
