Garrett Jones Returns to Goodson Racing for Doubleheader Weekend

Jones Seeking Victory Lane at Five Flags and Mobile International Speedway

MOORESVILLE, NC (July 22, 2015) – This weekend Garrett Jones is set compete for Goodson Racing for the second time this year. The driver will be racing the Buddy’s Home Furnishing Yellow No. 1 at Five Flags Speedway and Mobile International Speedway during this weekend’s doubleheader in the Southern Super Series (SSS). Mike Garvey will be calling the shots for Jones from the pits.

Jones recently visited the two tracks at the end of June during his debut start with Goodson Racing and managed to secure a second place finish before the weekend was over. Despite the great finish, Jones says he’s still searching for more.

“A Top-3 is my personal goal this weekend. If we don’t win somewhere then we are always looking at what we can improve on so we can get ourselves to Victory Lane,” said Jones. “Having raced at these two tracks recently does help. Anytime you can get laps at an upcoming track on the SSS schedule is an advantage – especially since I am racing against some real veterans of short track racing!”

Jones has a long history at both tracks he will visit this weekend. It’s this experience that he will lean on during his pursuit for a win.

“Five Flags is one of my favorite tracks on the schedule. I’ve had more laps around there than any other track,” he said. “It’s like no other track we ever go to! It’s so weather sensitive that you always have to be on your game to keep up with the track and be ready to jump in and race.”

While he may not have as many laps at Mobile International Speedway, Jones appreciates the track’s challenges and characteristics.

“Mobile is fun because there are no walls around the speedway. That gives you a little more room to run on and avoid any wrecks,” he said. “It helps a lot, even if it means going through the grass.”

Jones’ racing weekend will begin at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida on Friday, July 24. The action continues the next day at Mobile International Speedway in Mobile, Alabama.

“The doubleheader weekend races are really exciting! It’s a lot of fun to race two nights in a row. Double the chances to win!”

About Garrett Jones

Garrett Jones began his racing career at just five years old. After starting out in karts, he moved onto quarter midgets and really hit his stride. Over the next couple of years, Jones captured multiple championships and titles including multiple National USAC .25 Touring Championships. In 2012 at 12 years old, Jones became the youngest winner in history at Dillon Motor Speedway in a late model stock car.  Jones’ success continued in 2013 capturing both Rookie-of-the-Year honors in the UARA series as well as the Pro Late Model Championship at the historic Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL, home of the Snowball Derby.  In 2014, in a down to the wire finish after a season long battle where Jones marked 3 wins at the famed track in Pensacola, he finished 2nd to Johanna Long, a regular in NASCAR’s Xfinity Series. 2015 marks Jones’ first time racing in a super late model series.
