VonDohren Scores Sixth Forrest Rogers Memorial Victory, Stoudt and Weiss Are Also Grandview NASCAR Feature Winners

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. August 9, 2015 . . . Craig VonDohren, the current T.P. Trailers Modified point leader, behind the wheel of his K.L. Harring Transportation/Pioneer Pole Buildings sponsored No. 1C, made some daring moves to get to the front of the pack from his 14th starting berth in the 45th annual Forrest Rogers Memorial presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings 50-lap T.P. Trailers NASCAR Whelen Modified feature on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway. The race also videotaped for future broadcast by RCN TV, Allentown. He put the Nick Gatto powered mount into second on the 19th lap and coming off the fourth turn dove underneath Eric Biehn to become the new leader. VonDohren dealt with heavy lapped traffic in the later stages that allowed to competition to close the gap, but he kept everyone at bay and went on to score his third win of the season and become the sixth winner of the event. In addition to the $10,000 payday he received a monetary award from T.P. Trailers, products from VP Fuel for running gas plus earned a guaranteed starting berth in the 45th Annual Freedom 76 on September 12 which offers $25,000 to the winner.

Randy Stoudt, the defending Late Model point champion, chalked up his fourth BRC NASCAR 20-lap feature as he finished ahead of current point leader Chuck Schutz.

In NASCAR Sportsman competition another new name was added to the winners list when Sean Weiss led from start to finish in the 25-lap event. His first career win didn’t come easily since he had to hold off all challengers before claiming the top prize.

Coming up on Saturday, August 15th will be the Henning Trains/Henning Motorsports Night with Lionel posting three Lionel “new state of the art” PRR train sets and some NASCAR 1:64 collectibles to be given out via a raffle for youngsters in the stands. And the “Lansdale Cannoneers Sportsman Club” will be tossing adult sized Henning Motorsports t-shirts with winners invited to victory lane for a quick photo session.

Late Model driver Bill Henning will be celebrating his birthday and Henning Trains will be having an early 75th anniversary celebration. The Lansdale, PA based business will reach 75 officially in October.

The night of racing will feature the T.P. Trailers NASCAR 358 Modifieds, BRC Late Models and Sportsman stock cars. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Adult admission is $15 while youngsters 11 and under are admitted free.

Ryan Kunkle led the Modified race for four laps before Biehn passed him on the fifth lap restart needed for a backstretch involving Doug Manmiller and Jordan Umbenhauer.

Behind Biehn the battle for positions brewed between Kunkle, Kyle Borror, Ryan Grim and Meme DeSantis.

Jared Umbenhauer brought out the 12th lap caution with a flat left rear tire. He quickly went pit side and rejoined the action. Biehn held his post when action resumed, but now pressure came from Kunkle, Borror, VonDohren and Grim.

The three-way battle for second between Kunkle, Borror and Von Dohren gave Biehn some breathing room. Waiting in the wings for a slip-up were Ray Swinehart, Grim and Jeff Strunk.

Once VonDohren broke free and overtook second his next mission was to pass Biehn.

The lead changed on lap 20 when VonDohren’s move underneath Biehn off turn four stuck and he was now the new pacesetter.

By the 28th lap VonDohren approached lap traffic and at this point was now trailed by Kunkle, Strunk, Duane Howard and Biehn.

Strunk, who started 15th, advanced to second on the 30th lap and set sail after VonDohren who by this time was in heavier lap traffic. This allowed Strunk to gain some ground, but by the 39th lap, 13th place starter Howard was third trying to get by Strunk.

The next yellow was for John Willman’s spin on the 43rd lap. It took two attempts to complete the next lap with VonDohren, Strunk, Howard, Grim and Danny Erb compili9ng the front five.

VonDohren, who “felt it was his turn tonight,” never surrendered the lead and went on to put his mount in victory lane. Claiming second was Strunk followed by Howard, Grim, changing his luck finally and Erb. Taking an impressive sixth-place finish from 25th was 15-year old New York State visitor Tyler Dippel with Kunkle, Tim Buckwalter, Borror and Glenn Strunk sixth through tenth.

DeSantis, Ron Seltmann Jr. and J. Strunk won the heats. The consi winner was Mike Gular.

Late model action saw Drew Weisser take the early lead and set the pace for nine laps before Stoudt took over first.

The battle for positions behind Stoudt was an intense one between Devin Frey, Weisser, Lou Egrie Jr. and Steve Gross.

Frey, who was having one of his best runs, had misfortune strike and was out of contention on lap 15. Frey’s mishap put Egrie Jr. in a position to chase down Stoudt followed by Schutz, Weisser and Rick Todorow. Trying to break into the top five was Sean Merkel and by the 19th lap he advanced to fourth.

With two laps to go Egrie Jr. developed problems and pulled into the infield relinquishing the spot to Schutz.

Stoudt never looked back and was victorious once again followed across the line by Schutz, s. Merkel, Dave Ogin and Todorow. Rounding out the top ten were Kyle Merkel, Wayne Pfeil, Cory Merkel, Joe Fanelli and Weisser.

Gross and Egrie Jr. won the heats.

Weiss quickly motored to first on the initial start of the Sportsman feature ahead of Steve Young, Paul Houseknecht, Dean Bachman and Erik Renninger.

The red was thrown on the fourth lap when Brad Brightbill hit the first turn wall with heavy impact. Also involved were Jordan Henn and Joe Funk III. Brightbill was slightly shaken and through for the night, but the others could continue after a pit stop. Weiss held onto first on the restart with heavy pressure coming from Bachman, Jim Housworth, Renninger and Brandon Whitmoyer.

Ryan Beltz brought out the 15th lap yellow after he spun in the fourth turn. It was still Weiss first, but now Renninger took over second and was in hot pursuit of the lead.

Renninger had the opportunity at one point to pass Weiss, but had the door shut on him as Weiss was protecting the lead.

With one lap to go Renninger, having a solid second place run, spun in turn four for the final yellow. On the restart Weiss wasted no time moving out since Housworth was now second.

Weiss never gave up the top spot and went on to chalk up a well-deserved victory followed by Housworth, C. Whitmoyer, Bachman and B. Whitmoyer. Completing the top ten were Kyle Lilick, Kenny Gilmore, Henn, Brian Kressley and Ryan Shupp.

Heats were won by Weiss, Housworth and Young. Kyle Lilick was the consi winner.
