New England Street Outlaw Series Gearing Up For Second Thompson Speedway Event

250’ Street Drag Racing Returns to Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park This Saturday, August 15th

Gales Ferry, CT (August 12, 2015) – Building off the excitement and buzz of the first event in July, spectator drag racing returns to Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park this Saturday, August 15th. Hosted by the New England Street Outlaw Series, the 250 foot long temporary track on the oval back shoot provides an exciting challenge for racers in bracket style drag racing among the three classes who will be racing for $1,200 in cash prizes. Big trophies, big cash prizes and big bragging rights are all up for grabs this Saturday.

The track distance for the July event was 250’ making it the longest legal drag racing timing zone in 30-years in the state since Connecticut Dragway closed its doors forever in 1985. Following the event many racers provided similar feedback about the racing and track setup. For the upcoming event the NESOS will be making minor changes to the track position on the backstretch allowing for a flatter and more stable burn box area for racers to warm up their tires before staging. “Racers really enjoyed the challenge of going 250 feet. Most had to shift which added a degree of difficulty you won’t find at a smaller sized track and did affect some of the elimination rounds” said Mark Caise, NESOS Series Promoter. The track distance of 250’ was well received by many racers as well. “We had considered seeing how the first event went and expanding to 330 feet for this event, but most racers who we surveyed following the July event expressed concern for extending it for the timing zone so we will be keeping the distance at 250 feet” explained Race Director David Gagnon.

The July event featured exciting down to the wire finishes for all classes. Jason Barba went on to win the inaugural NESOS Bike Eliminator with a 5.06 ET compared to Steve Crocco with a 5.42 ET. The Street Class Finals of Ted Janneth vs. Robert Gaudreau saw Janneth take the win by close to a full second over Gaudreau making Janneth the inaugural Street Class Eliminator winner. In the Competition Class Finals a very close battle at the end would go to Reed (4.39123 ET) over Ibbitson (4.55141 ET) to make Reed the inaugural Competition Class Eliminator winner.

Initially announced on Facebook by the NESOS during the last week of July as an $800 payout other local drag racing enthusiasts have offered to support the NESOS build off a great first event by further contributing to the payouts. Spearheaded by Gary Bingham the total $1,200 payout has been made possible by Horsepower Farm, Caplet’s Heavy Equipment Repair LLC and R&G Sealcoating. “We are really excited to have some great drag racing enthusiasts come together to support the racers. Our hope is that it will increase attention among those who missed our first event to come out and race this Saturday” stated NESOS Promoter Mark Caise.  “We can’t thank these guys enough for what they are doing to help keep drag racing running strong in this area and we are lucky to have them involved with us at the NESOS.”
