USAC Southwest Freedom Tour Finale Saturday at DCRP

DODGE CITY, Kan. (August 18, 2015) – It happens just one time each year.  And that one time is this Saturday, as “traditional” Sprint Cars takes to the Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval this Saturday night.

Saturday’s card that fires off at 7:30 p.m. marks the final round of the USAC Southwest Sprint Cars Third Annual “Freedom Tour” for non-wing Sprint Cars.

It’s a four-race set of events that culminates at the 3/8-mile DCRP facility after kicking off at Oklahoma’s Lawton Speedway on Wednesday night before moving on to Creek County Speedway near Tulsa on Thursday and then Wichita’s 81 Speedway on Friday.

The USAC Southwest forces will be accompanied on Saturday night by the Kansas Antique Racers Evart Isaac Tribute along with DCRP championship chase action for IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks.

Michael Bonneau reigns as the defending USAC Southwest “Freedom Tour” winner at DCRP after Rick Ziehl ran afoul of lapped traffic in the late going.  Ziehl topped a “Freedom Tour” of action at DCRP in 2013 along with Charles Davis, Jr.

Two-time and reigning series champion R.J. Johnson of Phoenix, AZ, is the current series points leader entering “Freedom Tour” action with a 64-point advantage over Davis, Jr., with Matt Rossi, Stevie Sussex and Josh Pelkey also among the top five for the Arizona-based series.

While Bonneau won last year’s “Freedom Tour” finale at Dodge City Raceway Park, other winners included R.J. Johnson in the opener at Lawton, Brady Bacon at Creek County Speedway and Mike Martin at 81 Speedway.

In the inaugural edition of USAC Southwest “Freedom Tour” competition in 2013, Tulsa-area racer Danny Smith fought off the invading forces to win the first event at Creek County Speedway with Rick Ziehl victorious at Wichita before splitting DCRP honors with Davis, Jr.

The K.A.R. Evart Isaac Tribute will include tailgating from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with music from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the cars on display and then a brisket and pulled pork dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with donations going to the Steve King Foundation.

In DCRP championship chase action, Austin Allen’s IMCA Modified points lead has been cut 46 points by Clay Sellard, Michael Pepper holds an 89-point advantage over Ron Hartman in the IMCA Stock Car title chase and Cody Davis is 122 points ahead of Reagan Sellard in the IMCA Hobby Stock battle.

General admission for Saturday’s USAC Southwest non-wing Sprint Car “Freedom Tour” event is just $20 with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
