Bennett Adds New Car, Son’s Leukemia in Remission

Michael Bennett of Willington, CT has a new race car for 2016 thanks to his car owner Bingo’s latest purchase. Bennett announced on Facebook that he has the No. 22 ACT Late Model for racing at New London-Waterford (CT) Speedbowl, Thompson (CT) Speedway Motorsports Park and “possibly” New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

He said he is “not sure” of his plans for next year. He is waiting until the postseason to decide.

The Late Model points leader at Stafford (CT) Motor Speedway, Bennett has a 44 point advantage with 6 wins, 15 top fives, and 19 top tens through 19 races. His goal is to keep winning and capture his first Late Model championship. Bennett was the 2005 Limited Late Model champion and has competed in the premier SK Modified® division.

The No. 16 Mastiff Armory, TSI Harley-Davidson Toyota has the youngest car owner in the field, three-year-old Chace Bennett. Michael’s son was diagnosed with Leukemia on August 3. The GoFundMe page set up by his aunt has raised $12,983 of $20,000. Teams have run #RaceforChace decals on their cars locally up through the NASCAR XFINITY and Camping World Truck Series. Late Model driver Jeff Rocco donated his winnings from the August 12 race at Thompson as well.

The family received some great news last week, with Chace’s cancer in remission.

“It’s been incredible,” Bennett said. “People I have never met or heard about have reached out and offered support. It really shows how racing makes us all one big family.
