PIT BOX: Trophy To Be Claimed In Canada

Canadian Tire, Whelen All-American Titles To Be Decided This Weekend; Close Battle Continues In Southern Modifieds

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

• The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 will hold its annual Pinty’s 250 season finale this weekend at Kawartha Speedway in Fraserville, Ontario. Scott Steckly leads Jason Hathaway by nine points (403-394) as he goes after his fourth series championship. Andrew Ranger is tied with Hathaway as he goes after his third championship. Hathaway, who scored his first road course win in the season’s penultimate event for the series at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, is contending for his first title.

• The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will make its second stop of the season at South Boston Speedway for the South Boston 150 on Saturday. The tour is experiencing one of its closest points battles in its 11-year history as Jason Myers leads defending champion Andy Seuss and his older brother, Burt, by just one-point (308-307). Kyle Ebersole is fourth at 303 and four-time champion George Brunnhoelzl III is back in the hunt, nine points behind the lead, after his win in the series’ most recent race.

• Two-time national champion Lee Pulliam has been in overdrive chasing a third title. The Semora, North Carolina, won three more times over the weekend. In the last three weeks, he has won eight of 11 asphalt Late Model races at five different tracks over three states. Unofficially, Pulliam holds a 700-681 lead over Oklahoma’s Thomas Tillison Jr. heading into the final weekend for races to count toward NASCAR Whelen All-American Series points.
