Haws Satisfied With Performance at Myrtle Beach Speedway
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.— Brayton Haws may not have won at Myrtle Beach Speedway (SC) on Saturday night, but he was still happy with his performance in the CARS Racing Tour BakerDist.com200 Late Model Stock feature. Haws started 10th and finished eighth, but got as high as the top four during the 100-lap race.
However, Myrtle Beach Speedway is all about saving tires, and Haws worked hard to save as much as he could for the end of the race.
“We were saving for a while so I let some cars pass us,” Haws said.
As a result, the 15-year-old North Carolina driver dropped back in the field before eventually working his way back up through the pack.
“About lap 60 we turned it on and started coming back through the field,” he said. “We got to maybe seventh or eighth and then that last caution came out. Our stuff was used up, but I still had a little bit more.”
A caution with two laps to go set up a green-white-checkered finish. Haws and his championship foe, Myatt Snider, made contact in turn three on the final lap. Haws had to settle for eighth, but he’s still satisfied with his effort and the effort that his Hawk-McCall Motorsports team showed throughout the day.
“Overall I’m happy with how I did,” he said. “We just used our stuff up too much coming back through the field. But it was a good night overall.”
Now Haws heads to the legendary half-mile of Martinsville Speedway in Virginia on Wednesday, September 23 to test for the prestigious Martinsville 300.
