Hardy Wins from 23rd! Friese Tops 53 Car Field at UFo ThunderDog Showdown at Dog Hollow
STRONGSTOWN, PA (September 26, 2015) – Kyle Hardy, of Stephens City, VA, stormed from his 23rd starting spot to capture the 2nd Annual Thunder Dog Finale at Dog Hollow Speedway. Hardy collected a paycheck worth $5250 in the 55 lap main event. Eric Irvan took home the 35-lap Semi-Late Main paying $1500 to win. In the Lias Tire Ultimate Crate Late Model Challenge, it was Lindsay Barton taking the checker. Nate Smith came from the tail to win the Street Stock feature while Dave Lee continued his dominating claiming his 12th AMSOIL Pure Stock win. First-time visitor Mitchell Houck won the 4 Cylinder main.
At the drop of the green Mike Altobelli laid claim to the lead in the Super Late Model feature. Altobelli was challenged by Doug Glessner the first six laps. Lap 7 saw Friday night’s winner Devin Friese grabbed the runner-up spot and went looking for the leader. The pair raced raced hard and clean before Altobelli began to open up a safe lead. By lap 22 Kyle Hardy advanced into the top five when a yellow slowed the event on lap 23.
The green reappeared and Hardy quickly shot from fourth to the second spot. Hardy reeled in Altobelli and took the lead on lap 30. It was Hardy who then opened up a small lead. Hardy slowed up a little as they ran into lapped traffic allowing Altobelli to catch him. Altobelli challenged for the lead several laps but couldn’t make the pass. Hardy was able to hold him off the final ten laps to earn his third win in eight days. Following Hardy and Altobelli was Keith Jackson, Coleby Frye and Dan Stone. Rounding out the top ten were Jason Covert, Devin Friese, Matt Parks, Dylan Yoder (from 18th) and Dan Angelicchio.
The six heat winners were Doug Glessner, Jason Covert, Michael Lake, Kyle Hardy, Dan Angelicchio and Coleby Frye. Jim Yoder and Dylan Yoder were the B-Main winners.
Ralph Morgan, Jr. assume the lead at the start of the 35-lap Semi-Late feature. Morgan was the dominate car pulling away from seven restarts in the 23 laps. As Morgan was approaching lapped cars, he clipped a spinning Bob Burns. The contact left Morgan with a flat right rear sending him pit side and ending his good run on lap 24. This handed the lead over to Eric Irvan, who had been running second the whole race. Irvan held off a persistent Mike Altobelli for the win. Altobelli finished second for the second time this evening. Behind Irvan and Altobelli were Andrew Yoder, Gale Huey, Andy Fries, Dan Smeal, Sam Gindlesperger, Mike Smith, Dan Boyd and John Myers. Friday heat winners were Andrew Yoder, Andy Fries, and Gale Huey.
Jeremy Shaffer led the opening lap of the Ultimate Crate Late Model Challenge. A yellow appeared after one lap and while under caution Shaffer’s car came to a stop in turn three. Shaffer was pushed to the pits turning the lead over to Mifflintown’s Lindsay Barton. The lady racer cruised to the win over Rob Marhefka, Mike Pegher, Brad McGinnis (from 16th) and Wendall Pinckney. Sixth through tenth were Joe Moyer, Corey Neal, Kris Eaton, John Eckenrod and Joe Petyak. Heat winners on Friday night belonged to Andrew Satterlee and Jeremy Shaffer.
Glen Campbell’s Nate Smith earned his Street Stock victory. Smith led the first 14 laps before Ryan Sager took over for a lap. The high-flying pair both spun out going for the lead after contact in turn two on lap 14. This sent them both to the rear of the field. When the green came back out Smith was a man on a mission. He cracked back into the top 16. Smith retook the lead on lap 21 to score his 5th Dog Hollow win this season. Luke Barnett, Ryan Sager, Jeff Sweeney, Brian Wyandt, Craig Koteles, Ridge Bookwalter, Dennis Collins and Tony Brown were the top ten. Heat winners the night before were Ryan Sager and Nate Smith.
Nick Erskine grabbed the lead at the drop of the green. Erskine was looking to make it two straight wins leading the first five laps. On a lap six restart, he chose the inside lane putting Dave Lee on the outside. Lee used the restart to take the lead. Heat winners Lee and Erskine gave the fans a show before Lee won over Erskine, Johnny Macormac, Chris Hickok, Tyler Wagner, Ben Krause, Brad Benton, Amber Mills, Josh Kreasko and Curtis Lawton.
2015 4 Cylinder champion Jack Theys led laps 1 through six. Mike Phillipson then took over for one lap before he, Jack Theys and Jesse Laughard all tangled in turn two. Zack Wissinger inherited the lead that only lasted three laps. Newcomer Mitchell Houck passed Wissiner but had his hand full with Brady Miller, who took second on lap 11. Miller then threw everything he could at Houck but came up a little short. Houck scored the win in his first visit to Dog Hollow. Miller, Tanner Landsberry, Chris Reckner and Paul Crynock were the top five. Completing the top ten were Wade Roles, Jamie Noel, Zack Wissinger, Jesse Laughard and Jessica Noel. Miller won the one heat.

STRONGSTOWN, PA (September 25, 2015) – Chambersburg’s Devin Friese led all 36 laps to score a $2000 paycheck in the “Flyin’ Floyd Kline Memorial” for Super Late Models Friday night at Dog Hollow Speedway. Friese beat out 53 drivers to score the win. Rick Morrison won the 12-lap Cyclone feature in their first-ever appearance at the speedway.
The first green flag saw Rick Singleton take the lead only to break a rear end before the first lap was completed. On the second restart, Devin Friese used his pole start to take command. Jason Covert took up the initial chase of the leader. Another yellow flew for Gregg Satterlee, who spun in turn four, putting him on the tail for the restart. Friese started to pull away from the pack showing some strong horsepower in the #12 machine. Meanwhile, all eyes were on Satterlee as he began to work his way through the field. By lap 20 Satterlee was back in the top five.
On lap 23 the leader engaged in lapped traffic allowing the Cover and Kyle Hardy to cut into his advantage. Friese masterfully worked his way around the lapped machines as did Covert and Hardy. Dylan Yoder, who started 23rd, was also making his way through the pack cracking the top ten by lap 15.
Kyle Hardy removed Covert from the runner-up spot on lap 33. Hardy closed the gap some, but ran out of laps as Friese was able to come home the victory. Hardy settled for the bridesmaid spot followed by Jason Covert, Dan Stone, and Dylan Yoder. Sixth through tenth were Gregg Satterlee, Keith Jackson, Coleby Frye, Alex Ferree (from 22nd) and Matt Parks. Qualifying heats were won by Gregg Satterlee, Keith Jackson, Mike Blose, Tim Smith, Jr., Kyle Hardy and Michael Lake. Scott Rhodes and Nick Dickson were the B-Main winners.
In the Cyclone feature, Rick Morrison took home the checker over Dalton Dillman, Brandon Hoover, Zach States, Dusty Baker, Mylo Markovich, Chuck LaPorta, Scott Decker and Cody Brown. Heats were won by Morrison and Baker.
Heat races were run for the Semi Lates, Crate Late Models, Cadets, Pure Stocks and 4 Cylinders. Semi Late heat winners were Andrew Yoder, Andy Fries, and Gale Huey. In the Crate Late Models wins went to Andrew Satterlee and Jeremy Shaffer. Street Stock heats went to Ryan Sager and Nate Smith. The AMSOIL Pure Stocks saw Nick Erskine and Dave Lee victorious while the 4 Cylinder heat winner was Brad Miller. Features for those divisions will take place on Saturday along with another complete Ufo Super Late Model show paying $5250 for the 55 lap affair.
