Mike Hopkins Scores Speedway 95 Late Model Win
Former Dysart’s Late Model champion Mike Hopkins of Hermon made a return visit to Speedway 95 Saturday afternoon and drove away with a win in the 40 lap Feature. Hopkins started on the outside pole and led the entire distance, never really being challenged by the regulars. Last week’s winner John Curtis Jr. of Hermon grabbed second spot from pole sitter Ryan Deane of Winterport after a side by side battle and held it to the checkers. Deane finished third, followed by five-time winner Deane Smart of Bradley in fourth and Frankfort’s Dana Wilbur finished fifth.
The Outlaw Super Series of Maine made it’s third appearance of the season at Speedway 95, with Ricky Burgess of Waterville taking the win. Joey Doyon of Winterport borrowed D.J. Moody’s ride for the feature and finished in second, followed by Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs in third. Fourth went to Bangor’s Shawn Hamel with Mike Overlock of Franklin finishing fifth.
Bob Seger Jr. of Frankfort jumped into the lead at the drop of the green and led to the checkers. Ricky Burgess of Waterville drove to a second place finish with Glenburn’s Jordan Pearson making a nice run through the field to finish third. Fourth went to 2015 division champion Greg Pung of Franklin and Bradley Norris of Ellsworth was fifth.
Zach Audet of Skowhegan took the lead from Dustan Durrell of Newburgh on lap 12 of the 25 lap Coca-Cola Sport-Four feature and went on to post his third win in a row in his late season surge. Dustan Durrell finished second with his father, Darren Durrell of Newburgh finishing third. Fourth went to Kingman driver Brock Worster, and Andrew Crosby of Hermon rounded out the top five.
In the Modified Enduros, Danielle Beal of Hampden showed why she’s the division champion for 2015 as she passed her husband, third place finisher Travis Beale of Hampden and second place finisher Dustin Lancaster of Milo late in the event to post the win. Alex Runci of Frankfort finished fourth with Delaney Dunn of Eastbrook coming in fifth.
Jeff Overlock Jr. won the 20 lap RoadRunner feature, followed by Tim Lawrence of Hermon in second. Third went to J.R. Ogden of Mariaville, with Sam Betts of Bradley and Jason Skillins of Monroe making up the top five.
