Sunn Scores Victory in USAC DMA Race @ Bear Ridge Speedway, Teammate Pierson Gets the Championship

Ellington, CT: FMR Racing teammates were victorious this past Saturday night at Bear Ridge Speedway in the USAC Dirt Midget Association, one with the race win and the other with the series championship.
With this being the last race of the season, the feature lineup was determined by time trials and no Dash race. With Adam Pierson in the 76M turning the fast laps in time trials, he would have had the pole except for a top four redraw which put Pierson to fourth giving the pole to the 5 of Derek Graham.

The night’s feature race was twenty-five laps in length with action on each and every one of those laps. With the 5 of Graham on pole followed by the 1W of crowd favorite Ray Miller, the first row was ready to take the green. On lap one, Graham held the point with three wide racing for the top four positions while the 67 of Josh Sunn was now second followed by the 18C of Mike Chaffee and Ray Miller in the 1W now back to fourth. By the time the field came back around for lap two, Sunn in his 67 was now leading with Graham in the 5 running second. Back in the pack was the 76M of Adam Pierson working his way to the front to join his teammate Sunn. By lap eight, Pierson had succeeded in taking the second position from the 5 of Graham while Sunn in the 67 still held the point. The top four was comprised of Sunn (67), Pierson (76M), Graham (5) and the 18C of Mike Chaffee. Just as the 76M of Pierson had passed the 67 of Sunn, the 33 of Tim Gallant spun in turn one which brought out the caution. Since the lap had not been completed, Pierson was moved back to second with Sunn holding first. Back to green and Sunn showed his strength with holding off the pack to maintain his lead while teammate Pierson stayed second and the 5 of Graham holding down third spot. The top four put on a great show at the front while the remaining field ran laps three and four wide along with passing for positions on each lap. As the race leader Sunn in the 67 was clicking off laps, he had begun to lap the tail end of the field. As the last checker flag of the race season waived, it was Josh Sunn in the 67 from White River Junction, VT for the win followed by his FMR teammate Adam Pierson in the 76M for second and the 5 of Derek Graham rounding out the top three.

In other series news, Adam Pierson was award the New England Race Fuel Triple Crown award for scoring the most points during the series three-race run earlier this season.

With his second place finish in the last race, Adam Pierson became the 2015 series champion for the second year in a row.
