Toy State Supporting TBR, Baldwin Looking Toward 2016
Bowman Visits Boston Children’s Hospital
LOUDON, NH — Tommy Baldwin Racing and driver Alex Bowman visited Boston Children’s Hospital Thursday. Patients signed a helmet that will be auctioned to benefit The NASCAR Foundation. Additional signatures will be added by patients in each city the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series visits this season.
“It’s a pretty neat deal,” team owner Tommy Baldwin, Jr. said. “Obviously it’s always cool to see some kids that are having difficulties in the hospital smile a little bit as well as their families too. So it’s always good to give back in that way and it was a great appearance. We brought the whole hauler and the car, and actually the same car that we’re racing today there, and got everybody to take a look at it and the helmet as we’re going through all these different racetracks here upcoming racetracks we’re going to go to all these hospitals have the kids sign ’em and then auction it off.”
Toy State of Norwood, MA is the primary sponsor of the No. 7 Nikko/Road Rippers No. 7 Chevrolet for today’s Sylvania 300 and the last four races of the year at Martinsville, Texas, Phoenix, and Homestead.
“They’ve been great, great to work with, an upcoming company. Obviously, their toys are all over the place, but there’s different brands on the toys that they build. … We got a pretty neat plan, I think, coming together for next year. Hopefully, we can get that announced in the next couple two-three weeks.”
Tommy Baldwin Racing has some stability with Bowman of Tucson, AZ returning next season. Sponsorships are essential in keeping race teams going. For Baldwin’s team, bringing in a new sponsor to the sport is important, along with the opportunity to bolster the teams.
“It’s constantly a work in progress for us, just to keep that stuff going on a daily basis of trying to uncover all of the stones and see what’s out there. There’s a lot of things going on in our world right now and hopefully over the next four or five months our world changes a little bit so we become a little bit more valuable to the business world as teams and get some more names on our cars because of it.”
NASCAR has experimented in four races with a low downforce and high drag package. Baldwin is prepared if changes to the package and tires happen next season.
“The things that we’ve been talking about and doing are all things that we’ve already tried this year, so we all have a good idea of what’s going on. So not at all. NASCAR’s doing a good job trying to, I think we’re all doing a really good job of trying to put the best product out there for the fans and for everybody to watch on TV. So I think right now you see a lot of the whole garage working together with NASCAR on this program and that’s usually what will end up being the best results because of it.”
NASCAR has been discussing changes with team owners and drivers this season. This dialogue has benefited the sport in providing a better direction.
“It’s been an eye-opener for everybody to really get everybody in one room and air out the differences or see that not many people are thinking much differently. We’re all kind of on the same page. So it’s good to have those meetings, for us to go back work together, go back and meet with them again, and keep rolling.”
