Rollins Extends Point Lead to Five Entering Sunoco World Series Feature Event

Puleo, Arena Grab Qualifying Heat Wins

THOMPSON, CT – Geoff Rollins took advantage of Chris Douton’s mechanical issues to earn an extra point in the championship standings during qualifying for the Sunoco World Series at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.

Ed Puleo turned heads, as the Mr. Rooter Plumbing driver cut through the field to nab the victory in the first of two heats on Friday. Puleo overtook pole sitter Corey Hutchings in the closing laps for the win, and earned the pole position for Saturday’s feature event, handicapped by the +/- system. Hutchings would settle for second, with Steve Kenneway holding on to third. Josh Galvin bested Anthony Belfiore at the line for fourth and fifth.

Joe Arena and Josh Wood battled for the lead early in the second heat. Wood won the first battle, but Arena won the war, as the Bristol, CT driver drove off for the victory. Behind Arena, Douton had the second spot locked up until the last corner, when front brake failure caused Douton’s Ford to bobble, allowing Jesse Gleason to make the pass for the second spot, with Wood in tow for third. Rollins took advantage of Douton’s misfortune, and completed the pass for fourth by inches at the line, with Douton taking the fifth spot.

Rollins needs to stay within two positions of Douton in Saturday’s feature event, as each position is worth two points in the championship standings, in the battle to become the inaugural champion of the North East Street Stock Tour.

The Sunoco World Series continues Saturday, with pit gates opening at 7AM, with the North East Street Stock Tour feature event scheduled to start at approximately 5:20PM. For more information on the North East Street Stock Tour, visit www.nestreetstocktour.com.
